Maybe suggest how?

First off, I didn't read it as "SAD" I read it as "SOC."

I'm not fond of the tiny little "innovations". It's hard to read when you shrink it down, and it is not consistent with the name of your company.

What part of this is -actually- your logo? The whole thing with the box and everything, or just what's in the middle? Knowing this will help me critique the actual logo.

"SAD" for your acronym is rather sad, isn't it? For me anyway, it kind of has a depressed connotation to it. If I wanted a design to be made for me I would want "energetic, catching, brilliant designs." Sad just makes me wonder what kind of design I'll actually get. If it was me personally, I would keep it at Shiwon's Artistic Designs. By the way, what do you mean by "Artistic Designs"? Who is your target audience, what will you be creating the majority of the time?

Strong '80s feel to both logos.

Also, while your initials maybe "SAD," this reads as "Soc" or "Soc l" to me

sad, soc, socl, looks confusing quite honestly...

however the bigger problem will be printing it nicely with edges like that. you might want to look into that seeing as business cards are small, if it's slightly off center, the edges will look like crap (quite honestly, don't seem to be harsh, but that's what will happen)

it has an old feel to it, and not like a retro feel, it just looks misplaced..

the right side isn't the same as the left in the corners.
if you look at the corners with the colored element, on the ride you have a band of black at the top that isn't on the left. seems inconsistent..

I also had read, "soc". I don't even see anything that slightly resembles an "a" or a "d"

You may think it's "simple"-- but it's really more complex than it needs to be. Those edges, like the above poster pointed out, will not translate well to an actual printed business card.

From the moment I saw the logo I also read it as "soc" I suggest keeping it simple. Employ easy graphic elements to form a clean, simple uniqueness. Also, try to change the font to one that is more readable.

Your on the right track, spend some more time refining it and it will progress. Keep us posted with your progress.

Everyone thanks for the comments!, its just a rough draft of a logo "SAD" that i came up with. Sorry "seraphim" and the rest of you guys but, disregard the color elements, borders, boxes, additional text(Shiwons artistic design), I wanted to focus on "Sad" which is actually my "LOGO"that i wanted you guys to critique on.

I'm a college student who is putting together couple of original pieces for my portfolio. Heres a little more detailed description on the logo..

S-which is the strongest part of my name since its my FIRST name so i wanted to apply a bright color. The lower case "a" which applied boldness, i pretty much can regonize the "a" but i guess thats why im here for this critique :), and finally the "d" which is also lowercase. And now that i look at the logo i agree with "pokie" that it gives it more of a complex feel .. i guess the diagonal line doesnt really connect with the circle to for a "d" shape. Its isolated from the 2 letters.

Im going to stick with the 3 letters . But having a tough time to get pretty clean, jazzy, and original logo.

thanks again for the comments i will continue to keep you guys posted !

The thing is, we all get that it's SUPPOSED to be "Sad." What we're telling you is that is doesn't READ as "Sad." If you have to explain to everyone, "Well, see, it's an 'S' and that means... and see that's an 'A' and..." then your logo is doing a really, REALLY bad job of communicating and identifying.

Which is what a logo is supposed to do.

I normally reserve my comments with students but I'm afraid you're heading down the wrong path and need to hear the truth.

My best advice is to start over with a completely new idea and design. This isn't even close to working and the base concept of using the acronym 'SAD' is a poor choice for your identity. One definition of SAD references 'pathetically inadequate and unfashionable'. I will leave it at that.

In my opinion, you've been blessed with an extremely unique first name and should consider useing that to fashion your identity. It's obvious you're proud of it based on the importance you've given the 'S' in your current logo when compared to the other letters. The world doesn't need the realative useless 'artistic designs' added afterward. If you're an artist they'll know it soon enough.

--------------

In the current design it is completely unreadable as referenced by so many before and becomes extremely fragile at small sizes. That's never a good thing in logo design. Also, the slanted line looks like an arrow stuck in the ground with the feathers sticking out. You also have too many concepts going on... In one area you show 'Innovations' and at the bottom it's 'artistic designs'.

As you gain experience and understanding you'll realize the beauty and not needing to state the obvious.

My apologizes for being so harsh but you had to hear it from somewhere. As an exercise try experimenting with letter forms in your name. Here are a couple of examples to get you started.

I'm impressed by both your critique and your examples, Creative_NRG. :)

and it's nice that you acknowledge that it might seem harsh, yet all said with good intentions. this is a truly useful critique, in many ways!

just one comment: keep im mind that your logo needs to be versatile, what i´m saying is, if you size it down to let´s say a bussiness card size, the word "innovations" would be illegible, as would the "Shiwons Artistic Design"
It´s better if all the elements of your logo are similar sizes so when you shrink it it´s still legible.
