Logo Colors
gedelman (30 pencils) | Sun, 2009-01-04 18:26I made the changes to the "Visual Design" as JHOUSE initially suggested. It does look better, thanks. I also reduced it by a few points but did not want to make it any smaller because you will not be able to read it on web (when its in a thumbnail size).
Anyways, I decided to use blue and here are the color combinations I came up with. Out of all of them, which one do you like (if any).

Well, I guess I put too many similars in there, sorry. However, do you think I should drop the idea of using 2 colors in the icon (i.e. #1) or stick with a single color approach (i.e. #4).
Thanks.
In my last comments I mentioned that you needed to work on the positive and negative space in the icon. Did you get a chance to work with that and make the relationship stronger. Right now, the two are not balanced. Also, the little bits of lines near the edges bother me.
Thoughts?

I decided to keep it as-is. Sorry, I did not mean to ignore your post. I actually responded to another member about this in the previous section. Anyways, I tried what you suggested a while back and found that the icon lost is appeal when evening out the feathers. The concept behind this was actually to be unbalanced. It was drawn up to be a closeup/macro of an artists brush (feathered brush), which naturally would look uneven. Another member indicated to leave the icon alone. It seems to be an impossible task to please everyone ... but I tried. I do appreciate the feedback.
Number 4 is the best choice to go along with. You may use another version for a digital project(e.g. a website). But on a letterhead #4 is the best.
Solid, No. 4. The split between the two blues in the mark evokes a gull's wing set against an ocean swell.
I still sense tension between GODFRIED EDELMAN and VISUAL DESIGN though. Have you tried various techniques with the base line--ie flush right and aligned with/beneath EDELMAN, bolded, and a reduced kerning?

Tried that but centering works best in my opinion (because the name is so long). You should be able to see the image below here with the modification you suggested. Do you think this works better than having it centered?
I think I prefer it Black only, without the button highlight
you could put the name beside it on the right of the icon if you stack them:
Godfried
Edelman
"...and mamma cried: Watch out where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow" - Frank Zappa
I'm sorry to note that you've decided to go with the original "brush idea. It could reprsent welding, horse tails, a bird's wing -- anything but graphic illustration and photography. The button highlight makes no sense in any of these interpretations, unless you do only Web design, maybe.
I like that you ditched the original italic sans font for "Visual Design," and as to the two above samples, I prefer the second.
I still think a major problem is that your name is too long. Edelman Visual Design with the mark would give you a lot more options, and a better chance at creating an appropriate hierarchy, which presently doesn't exist here.
It's way too early in the game to be tweaking shades of blue. Stick with B/W until you've nailed the design.

Great feedback. The right logo for me will have to wait for now as this concept is not really working. I value each comment and have read them closely. I will keep your tips in mind the next time I show new concepts here.
