Logo for Consignment Shop

My client is opening a consignment shop featuring "sweetly used" children's clothing and various kinds of handmade gift items. The name of the shop includes the nickname of her infant daughter, Tulip. She is in love with Pantone 390. Of the several logos I presented to her, this one was her favorite. The tulip and leaves are intended to subtly suggest a very small child doing the "yippee" thing with upraised arms. The business card featuring this logo will be printed on French Speckletone True White 80#c. I'm a little concerned about the color. Any thoughts on that, or in general?

I really don't like the border, it seems unnecessary.

Why are you concerned about the color?

I thought it might be too pale for signage.

I'm not sure myself, I worked in printing a little bit. I'm sure you know tons more than me. A lot of wedding/graduation type invites I did were in similar colors and turned out alright. I think it will work, but like I said I'm sure you have the expertise. Besides the border I really like everything about it!

I understand you about the border. I'll need it for the kind of signage I have in mind (or at least that is foremost in my mind now that Greg also thought of it!) -- are you thinking it's too restrictive? Generally, I'm not a big fan of borders, myself, but here I think we kind of need it or it effect would be too wimpy. That, of course, could point up a weakness with the basic design, right? I mean, if it can't carry the message without the border, maybe it's wuss?

I understand if it will be needed for the signage. I don't think it's restrictive just not a fan of borders off the bat.

Although on a closer look I am noticing how the curves of it work with the type and the flower. That's actually pretty cool.

I like it. I think this is perfect. The usage of the logo will make it or break it.

Thanks, Ivan. I'm a little confused what you mean about the usage making or breaking "it" -- by "it," do you mean the business? If so, gee, that's quite a compliment! If you mean I have to be careful how the client uses the logo, what kinds of usages you are thinking she should avoid?

i think it might look very interesting with the negative space cut out of wood and the positive space painted with that color.

That's one of my signage ideas. (It isn't wood, but some kind of composition stuff that stands up to weather better and can be any color). Goes with the handcrafted feeling. Thanks!

Mara,

I think it's perfect. My only concern would be the middle horizontal in the "E" in "Closet."

At first glance, it comes across as an "F."

Maybe drop the middle horizontal just a bit.

I agree, Terry. Thanks, I'll tweak that!

Mara06, but since this might be an environmental graphic, take that into account. Will there be a sign needed for the shopping center store directory signage from the road way? This might be lit as well. Think how it will project from a distance. With the border, I believe it will look nice on the side of a van.

See how close the vendor can color match the spot color. When I had made a sign with lexan, the resulting signage had a slight frosted appearance. I haven't done signage in a long time so pardon me on that.

This place won't be in a shopping center. It will be in a crossroads village in the countryside. Signage will be fairly small-scale. I wouldn't be using lexan in any case. Thanks for your helpful comments! Welcome to CreativeBits :-)
