Logo Critique

Greetings,
A few moons ago, I posted a logo design to be used in my photography business (current logo). Many people didn't like it and thought it didn't reflect what I did.
A designer friend emailed me a possible replacement, as it is more appealing than the current one.. What do you think of it?
Thanks,
Waleed

I love it! Very fresh and vibrant. My only criticism is that it's hard to identify as a 'w' at first. Maybe taking off the curl from the left arm of the 'w' would help, or otherwise tweaking it slightly to define its shape a bit better. Otherwise, I think it's great!

Thanks..
I think he selected that twisty W to also make it close to the Arabic name.

I like it, very nice. I still think moving the left curl away a little from the middle one would help it read better.

So much better than the current one imo. However you can definitely simplify this one a bit to make it even stronger.
I think you can lose the grey box.
I'm not quite sure what the petals mean. Maybe you can lose the ones that are loose and just use the loops to have an R G B petal in them?
Anyways, depending how much your current logo is recognized, you may not want to change it so drastically. Maybe an uplift to your current logo may work better for you?
Sweet
I like it alot, just seems to me it kinda looks like the Washington Nationals pretzel shaped "w" on their hats, but I think your w is different enough.

Critique of your W logo
I agree, looks just like the Washington Nationals logo. I would rather see something more personal, used with a differnent medium. A pen pencil, paint, wood, anything besides computer looking AI type treatment. You mention Arabic, where is it. looks more Europeanized or shall I say Americanized.
Thanks for allowing me to comment

The W itself is close to my first name in Arabic hand-writing.. The designer was thinking bilingual presentation of the logo since customers in Saudi Arabia are of mixed nationalities.
Europeanized or Americanized is a style that is creatively more versatile. Giving it a local feel means putting a local artifact for people to make the link. Something like a camel, horse, falcon, sword or tent on a logo does not really convey photography :)
Thanks for the comment

i like it.. i dunno why it reminds me of "chickfillet"! anyway, but yeah i suggest you drop the grey box, and tighten up the kerning on the web address.
but the colors make it look nice, festive and i think would do well in the ME.
Looks great.
Has a nice professional (corporate) look to it. I agree with losing the grey box, and maybe even try using varying thicknesses on the "W" to give it a little more character.

Thanks everybody..
.. and sorry for the delay in replying. Our King (Saudi Arabia) passed on yesterday and a few calls and appointment shiftings were needed..
Thanks again for your kind and useful comments. I'll pass them on to my friend and work on the newer version..

Very Nice!!!
I wouldn't change a thing. It's perfectly readable to these eyes, well balanced and unlike the last logo, isn't quite as limiting in it's portrayal of your business (the last one made it clear you did photography, and ONLY photography). This new one allows you to grow and expand a bit more.

Thanks Jim..
I passed all the comments and had a nice 2 hour chat with my designer friend about it today.. He'll think about all the comments and gives me his feedback in the next version in a couple of days..

I like a lot.
Very fresh.
To me, only one thing. The first thought came to my mind seeing your logo is an art gallery. The square, the four colors, and the freehand layout... an artist painting.
It's my opinion.
Ok, I know... It's only R'n'R ...but I like it.
You are right.. I do sell
You are right.. I do sell artistic photo prints too..
The rectangle means the photo crop
The RGB color petals means the 3 basic colors, and it's the center of attention
The yellow color means my immediate involvement in the work
