What do you think of this logo for a website based around New York City? Specifically, what do you think of the font? By the way, the bird is a pigeon...
Thanks!
I see a crow at first. I know it's a profile of a pigeon but the only thing that tells me it's a pigeon is the smaller beak. It could also be a Grouse. I think it's far too detailed an image to be used as a logo.
Maybe just the letter-forms would work? I guess it depends what the site is about. More info please :)
The silhouette is too detailed for logo use. While I see a pigeon in your enlarged version, I also saw a crow in the smaller thumbnail. adjust concept accordingly. And if this is about NYC, why the DC stencil? If you've ever been to Washington, DC, you'll know it's a pigeon-intensive experience. (All those monuments, I guess.) What I think of the font is that it's a stencil font, which often suggests a military theme, or import/export. If your Web site is about offing pigeons, you might want GIANT CROSSHAIRS. Oh, I dunno. The whole idea leaves me cold, but maybe a more detailed brief would have helped. "a website based around (did you mean "based ON"?) New York City" is an awfully broad context. Narrow it down for us.
The logo is for a website I'm making called Digital Concrete that demonstrates New York City life through digital photography and graphic art. I agree that there is too much detail for this to be a logo so I am working on smoothing the edges. The font, on the other hand, I'm having a lot of trouble with. I thought using graffiti would be very cliche. Although there are pigeons around the world, I would think one associates pigeons with New York City.
Moon, this is the second time you've presented us with a concept for your Digital Concrete project that veers wildly off the mark. I think you need to focus on the point of the project and try to reflect that, rather than attempting to make icons out of scraps of sidewalk scenery. You're trying to document what NYC looks like, right? Using digital technology, right? Easy access to the Big Apple, so to speak. Tell THAT tale with your logo.
BTW, the most prominent association of a city with pigeons would probably be Venice. The Piazza San Marco is like Pigeon Central for most people of the world. And London is no slouch in that department, either.
Dude, do some RESEARCH and SKETCHES rather than just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Even your creative brief is too short and vague to make any sense, much less explain this logo.
I think the concept is good. You need to work on the execution. It's a bit unrefined. Simplify the font and the bird. Make it more iconic and less illustrative.
How about the pigeon ON the letters DC and have the DC look like buildings? Just play around with it. I always have to step back for a bit... then come back and I can finally get it "finished".
DC. What is that, the GRADE A stamp for pigeons...delectable carrion? This is not working at all. I think you need to sit down with pencil and pad in hand and start doodling. Apples, skyscrapers, street vendors, pretzels...sketch all that says New York City for you and I think you'll land upon your solution.

I think its wicked. Given the nature of DC, i think the logo can be a little quirky. The less literal and corporate it is, the better the message it delivers...

This logo...
Doesn't say Digital nor Concrete. May I ask, how did you get to the pigeon concept?

Pigeons, though ubiquitous
Pigeons, though ubiquitous in NYC, are dim, poopy birds. Not sure you want that associated with Digital Concrete.
