Logo: Dexterous Designs

Hey, Im new to this wonderful site which I stumbled across a few days ago and spent ages reading through all the past blog posts and critiques. I have been working on a new logo idea for my freelance Web Design services so have decided to post it on here for your critique.
Thanks.

the mark is very nice - bold, simple and smooth don't change much - though the drop shadow isn't necessary - you might consider doing a cast shadow in certain applications to give it the feel of an object.

I find the font to be a little too much style over substance given the fact that the mark is so heavy on the left side. I'd go with something smooth and simple and a bit heavier. My suggestions - Microgramma for a wider look or Platelet or Cholla for a more modern feel.

I'm also not liking the outlines in "designs" - they'll scale poorly and don't look quite right.. maybe consider doing the "designs" portion smaller or in gray.

still good work - and good luck with the freelancing.

I think the mark is pretty good, and the drop shadow is distracting from it. Like dracula said, perhaps the object would look more like an object if it had a cast shadow, instead. But remember, when you add a shadow, you are implying light from a direction. Perhaps you could use gradients in the solid black areas to pull that off.

The shapes of the "D"s needs a little honing, too. The black that represents the front side of the back "D" seems to have an odd curve to it. Like the point is too sharp. I can't really explain what I see. It's like the curve hit an point and went another direction, and it's not as round as everything else.

I like the concept behind the mark, though. Good job with that.

I agree again with dracula about the type. It just doesn't match the mark. I would suggest a good friendly sans serif - Myriad, Avenir or Meta. Possibly the roundness of Futura. The rounded rectangle look on the letters you have betrays the curves of the mark.

Good luck, let us see your next version!

amazing concept!!!

these Ds look absolutely amazing apart from the fact that the rear one is longer than the front one. (i think i'm complaining about the same thing as webdav did) get that straight and it's the best logo i've seen for a long time.

and i too would change the font ... or rather get rid of it completely. these D's look just great, so why add distracting text. (at least make a textless version aswell)

I will get rid of the drop shadow, and ditch the font! I just threw the font on last minute maybe I should have just left it off - I will definately check out the fonts you have all recommended though.

I will also try and sort out the problem with the back "D" I get what you mean with the sharpness. I will have a play around and put together another version. Thanks again for all the comments.
