logo for a musician named A.S2 - rap music

Inspite of being a rapper logo I want to convey an idea of modern and inovative things and not the stereotypical graffitti and all that stuff everybody does. His music is a fusion of rap with some other genres, that's why I came up with the idea of making the fusion between the "A" and the "S"..
I've just started learning Illustrator a month ago, so don't be too hard on me...hehe

The only reason this isn't working for me, is because it reminds of some kind of fraternity symbol. (sorry) I think the A needs to look like an A. I like the dot idea on the A though.

I'd remove the orange background for best visibility.
The A is covering the S more than being fused with it, though the hole/rivet is an interesting idea; urban and well put together. The 2, however, looks disjointed and not fused with the A or the S at all. Why?
Otherwise, interesting concept.
