Leave the gradient off. Make it simplified. Also, scale down to about 1/4th the size. Imagine how those lines will thicken when printed. I'd get rid of the hairlines. I'd maybe make it more general and maybe even try a different image all together.
It almost looks like on the top one that there is a tail coming from the word "strays".. that might be a cool way to incorporate not only dogs but cats too. Not sure.
Try something more obscure though. Dog's face is a bit too obvious.
I like this. I think the lines could be a bit more stylized, with a little less detail in the ear for example. I think a light brown would work better than a gray but I don't know the color limitations of the project. Serifs work well for this.
