Logo for aquarium company
Submitted by LoveBeingADad on Tue, 2007-09-04 19:49.
This logo is for a new aquarium company, elemental ocean. They specialize in small, complete systems that are beautifully simple and simply beautiful. They are used mostly for salt water and salt water living reefs.
This logo will not only be used on their site and cards, etc. but may also be used as a stamp or screenprint on the aquarium itself.
Here are a few ideas. Some are rough but I'm looking for comments on what you like and ideas if any spring to mind.
Thanks

#12
There's a really good concept in #12 that's worth developing. "e" and "O" as fish & aquarium all can become a strong, simple design ... but you're not there yet. None of the others say anything at all (although clown fish says "Nemo" )
# 11 & 12
I do also like the playful feel of #11 & 12. Be careful, however, to make sure it doesn't look like the "Jesus Fish." These two concepts are really the only ones that have the potential to become something unique and creative.
I liked 9

Twelve
I love the simple creative concept behind #12 but agree with GaryW that it still needs a little cleanup work and exploration. Abandon the rest and work on 10-15 different alternates on this idea along with a word mark.
Nice work.

12 has a future. A bit of advice, don't use RGB for your drafts because once you make them CMYK the colours will look nothing like them. This can be a real pain if your client approves a logo in RGB and then it prints out totally different.

very nice!!!
try also other colors, to create a stronger printable contrast.

I think you should stay away
I think you should stay away from colors at this stage. These colors remind me of ms-paint (you know when you only had like 10 options of colors) and don't look particularly flattering.
Once i got over the bad colors though, i think you have some ideas started. I think i like 9 in a very basic basic way. I think a bit of elegance would do this a bit of good. Maybe making it a bit more organic looking or something?
I think one of the things i noticed immediately, was that they all felt really heavy and maybe a bit stagnant. try adding a bit of water to this idea perhaps.
life is great; without it, you'd be dead.

I like 4 & 12. 4 kind of resembles a fish and has a clean, organic look. 12 is a good concept, but I agree about the colors - try going a bit more muted with the colors for a more elegant and less child-like feel. Looks like you're off to a good start.

Good start with the sketches, however maybe you can build off or get
some ideas from this quick sketch i put together. Hope it steers you
in the right direction! Keep us posted with the revisions.

I love #12 myself
but the blue and green are too artificial, tone it down a tad, but it's cute, playful, well executed.
I agree about the colors...
The colors aren't doing it for me either. I like the concept of making a fish out of the e, but I'm not sure the implementation working for me. How about making the lower case e and o look like bubbles coming up to the surface? Maybe add a little web 2.0ish look to them with the Web 2.0 Styles Palette...
#11 or #12
Great concepts!
#11 takes a next step to # 12.
Both are good and contrasting each other, if both can be taken w'll be good. As you can animate some where # 11 & #12 it will look like fish moving in the pool(ocean).
Thanks!
Thanks for your great comments. I have created a new design and posted a new critique here: http://creativebits.org/elemental_ocean_-_take_2
The new design came from playing with ideas from your comments.
Thanks again!
