Logo Help
aestheticblur (7 pencils) | Mon, 2010-01-25 22:55I'm struggling big time with this logo for a DJ company. The client seems to really like this logo concept, however, I'm not satisfied with it as a designer.
I think that the company name is difficult to read amongst the colored boxes. I've tried several variations, but just can't seem to come to a solid conclusion.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

what kind of work do they do? this logo to me says garden parties and weddings...
Hi aestheticblur,
Adored the FUN factor and OLDIES feeling.
Certainly you could be less oldie.
The pallete positions could be more subtle and randonized to avoid the gravity downforce suggestion that makes heavier concept.
Could choose a better typo combo. This "M" is tired and maybe too much big.
You only need to balance the three tripods sizes.
(Entertainment &Productions is so small)
yes I'm brazilian xD
I agree with querty, the 'M' is way too big, almost disconnecting it from the rest of the piece, and also forcing you to make the Entertainment & Productions far too small. If you reduce the 'M' it will become too thin, you need a more robust typeface.
I like the colour pallette that you have used, but not the way you have implimented it, I think you can do better. The consistent step down spacing of the blocks isn't helping, randomise, maybe make them imperfect rectangles (distort) to mix things up a bit.
I think before you start adding coloured blocks though, you need to sort out your typography, make that tight, then think about embellishments.
You haven't stated what kind of DJ service your client offers, as stated by wgzn , it looks like weddings, that sort of thing. If that is your market develop further. On the other hand, if your client plays 'bangin' tunes' think again.
I look forward to round 2.

Yes you are correct. Their DJ target market is for Weddings and they are going for an elegant yet comfortable look. Hence, the client is pretty stuck on the Script M. I think it's too thin and keeps off-setting the balance. Any elegant font substitution suggestions? I appreciate all the feedback thus far.
I'm totally digging it. Love the retro feel to it. The only problem I'm seeing is scale - the "usicality" could be larger (but I like the huge M - so be careful there) and moved back to the left so the M is over the blue & yellow blocks. Then the "Entertainment and productions" tag could run across the entire bottom. So far as making it stand out a little more from the background - add a white shadow to "Musicality" - see how that plays. I think you have a wonderful start here - you just need to play with the arrangement to make it work a little better.
As always... jmho.
I don't like anything, honestly, except the font on the "entertainment and blahblah.." Yeah rectangles are there, but what do they actually represent? I'm all for simple, abstract shapes, but they just sit there, they're not engaged.
Really hate that M and the scale. I wouldnt be against a total re-haul, nothing tells me anything here.
I like the retro colors, and I like oldies album cover feel. I think it suits the client as you've described them. The M is a little thin, but if the client's set on it, leave it alone.
What's irking me is the subtle downer vibe of the box arrangment. On a bar graph, things going downward from left to right it is a bad thing. Also, the last color on the right is the lowest energy in the palette.
So... flip the boxes so they're moving up from left to right, giving the positive visual feel of ending on a high note. Or maybe stagger them to create a bouncy feel. I would also try rearranging the colors so that the red or the blue are last. Leave "& productions" where it is, just bring "entertainment" down to match the baselines.
Let us know how it goes.
