Logo For Massage Therapist
caoimghgin (845 pencils) | Fri, 2010-08-06 15:50A logo for good friend of mine. If you've seen any websites/logos for massage therapists, you'll know the field is wide open for design. Unless you want to use comic sans.
Hannah Proch is a licensed massage therapist who specializes in sports injuries and therapeutic healing.

well crafted, but i think it looks like a sports brand. or maybe a pie company...
i like it. subtle coloring, memorable design (for the most part).
i would, however, make sure you spell everything correctly on the final.... licen(s)ed
Ooooch! Thanks for the catch volitionart. ;-)
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.
Dude I love it - font, colors, everything. Except wgzn nailed it - doesn't say "massage therapist" at all in my book.
Well... except underneath where it literally says "massage therapist". :)
I like it too much and I don't want to kill it but I'll kill it if I have to. Think I have an idea....
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.
i think its well done. just well done for a loaf of bread. NOT a massage therapist.
@wqzn, You didn't make the connection between therapeutic massage and kneading a loaf of bread!? All that hard work down the drain! * OK, OK, Give me a minute here. I think I can pull it out of the fire *
;-)

haaaaa - nice one!
beautiful colour scheme, love the retro style, I would use this masseur.
living on dreams and custard creams.
Thanks monkey. Vote of confidence is much appreciated. ;-)

I feel you need a lotus flower or some lightweight crest around.
yes I'm brazilian xD
I like it, although it doesn't look like "Massage Therapist" to me — It doesn't have to.
It has a friendly/approachable feel, as well as sense of sportiness.
I guess that's all you need! :)
I mean, think about gas station SHELL (how is that suppose to look like a gas station when it first started?) and Apple (yeah it just screams computers/technology?)
You have another vote of confidence :)

The Shell logo's origins date back to the company's origins - they were originally exporters and one of their most popular products was oriental sea shells (used for decorative purposes). That is why the logo doesn't have anything to do with oil or gas.
The Apple logo is pretty simple - it has biblical origins... Eve took the bite of knowledge from the apple in the Garden of Eden. Ergo, an apple with a bite out of it (computers obviously being equated with knowledge).
One of my instructors in college said something that has always stuck with me - good design is good for a reason - there is a thought process behind it. You may not understand it - but it's there. So even though you didn't know WHY Shell uses a shell or why Apple uses an Apple - you knew those were good, effective design. The thought process still works - even in a blind sample.
This is all true true to a large extent in logo design but there is also quite a bit of 'Whatever' involved as well. Witness the evolution of Apple logo.
First, we have a horror show designed by Ronald Wayne. Then, Steve Jobs asked Rob Janoff to step up and create the logo we recognize today.
The bite out of the apple was simply put there so it wouldn't be confused with a tomato. The significance of the rainbow? Because Steve Jobs wanted color. Steve Jobs liked the name Apple because he just recently worked at an organic apple orchard and he thought they were an excellent fruit. No thought to the garden of Eden or the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil.
Now obviously we can assign all sorts of meaning to this symbol (or any fine mark) but lets not get too carried away with the mythology of logo design. Sometimes, it works because it just looks pretty.

The golden proportions of the Apple mark is simply gorgeous!

Well, you caught me on the Garden story - thought I'd slip that one past the rookie. But I still propose that the idea is relevant if for no other reason than it has occurred to others. But your bite story is wrong - I guess "history" depends on the person or place relating it. I'd trust the designer first...

Janoff's explanation (from the link)...
"Anyway, when I explain the real reason why I did the bite it's kind of a let down. But I'll tell you. I designed it with a bite for scale, so people get that it was an apple not a cherry. Also it was kind of iconic about taking a bite out of an apple."
But all that doesn't mean I disagree with your point - I don't. More than once I've settled on a design merely because I liked it and thought it would work. No deeper meanings necessary. And I think a lot of people (especially the younger designers) fall into the comfort zone of saying "this represents this and that represents that" when meanwhile none of it makes a lick of sense to anyone else. The "tattoo mentality" is what I call it - everyone thinks their tattoos are "symbolic" but really they're just big blobs of blueish black ink no outsider can even decipher after a year or so. And the Apple story supports what I said - Janoff had his reason for the apple and the bite - there was a thought process behind. Whether or not others latched onto it doesn't matter. The reasoned thought led to a reasoned logo which works (on many levels).
BTW - that's the thread that brought me to the board here - someone linked me to it.
I 100% agree with 'the well-thought' design. I'm totally in your camp on this one.
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.
I also agree. I didn't say Shell or Apple's logo's weren't well thought design. :)

This'd look fantastic embroidered onto the front of the massage therapist's tennis skirt.
I have some RSI that needs attention.

Very pleasing to the eye, but doesn't say massage to me.
I like it. I get young, progressive LMT...experimental, hip and caring.
This LMT also looks like she'd use peanut butter.
I'm okay with Skippy, but my dog likes Jif. ;)
