Logo Redesign

I have posted my old logo (blue circle). After some advice, I had decided to redesign the whole thing. I am posting the new design here. I think that when you look at it...the 7 portion of the design will be used as the memorable mark, but on print it will show the whole thing. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for bringing this up on the Critique page. (Those of you looking for the circle version posted earlier will find it in the Forum.)

My reaction to this version is better than to your first, but I have to question severaql things and ask you to explain and support your choices, as you would do if you were presenting this design to colleagues in an agency setting.

Why three separate, incompatible typefaces?

Why lower-case for "studio" but all caps for "creative & design"?

The three elements (studio, 7 in the red box, and creative & design) do not relate to each other proportionally or spatially in any way that makes good design sense to me. Did you make a conscious decision to do that for some reason?

The red box seems arbitrary. How did you decide on its size and placement?

To repeat what someone has already mentioned, what do you mean by "creative & design"? Design *is* creative. Or "a creative" is a designer. It seems to me that you're attempting to equate two different parts of speech that have similar meanings in a way that doesn't make grammatical sense, kind of like saying "fast & speed." It would be helpful to have your thinking on that.

Thanks for the reply. In response to your first question, three typefaces, I chose them as I did because I like the bold look of Creative & Design. The font I chose for the number 7 is because not a whole lot of fonts can make a number look decent in my opinion. And the word studio is as it is because the font I used for Creative & Design is an all uppercase font and I don't want the word to be uppercase.

As far as the elements...the 7 in the red square would be the recognized logo when used by itself for branding....As far as spacing is concerned, the studio7 is all spaced together as I typed it. The red square is supposed to be off as it is because I think it looks better as is once its used alone as a mark. The Creative & Design was stretched to fit the length of the complete logo without the font growing too large.

Lastly, Creative and Design is not as fast and speed in the way I shall describe it. I not only design your "necessary advertising", but I create the whole idea in full. No client input needed other than what their company name is and primary function.

Please give me any advice on any of the above. I am not a true professional by no means, but have a love that I am trying to capture.

Thanks

Your reasons here are circular, ie. they sound like "because i wanted to" rather than being concrete and based on what you want your logo to communicate. Who's your audience? Does this logo connect with them?

A logo should be consistent, that means two fonts or fewer, to me, but you have three and don't really have a good reason for it.

I'd say get back to basics. What does your firm do? How can you say that with just the studio name (remove the word creative or design I think will simplify your message). What clientele are you going for, corporate? Technical? Non-profit? Each client group has its own needs and expectations. Your logo should speak to that segment of your market and that can only be done with a consistent logo.

This one isn't it, but I think you're getting close. Why not use the 7 font, which seems to have the right character, and use if for the whole logo?

More brainstorming is needed on this, methinks.

You are absolutely right. I picked what I have because I like what I have used...however, I do know that without putting Creative & Design, one cannot tell what it is I do. I am having a hard time thinking of something to design to make the studio7 part tell the story. It is true when spoken that logo design is one of the hardest to design successfully. I need to rethink again I guess.

Thanks again.

does paul rand's IBM logo tell you what IBM does? what about AT&T? Mobil? Exxon? don't try to make your logo say something it can't. the word "studio" implies art to begin with, which helps, but rarely do you find logos that communicate what you're trying to do.

Agreed. Your logo is your brand but it isn't an advertisement for what you do or an explanation; it represents what you do. Marketing takes that logo and presents it to the world. Use your website and other marketing efforts to get the word out there. Using the word studio definitely helps, and the name is solid, so build on that.

I think the 7 in the red box would look better if it were centered. And just a suggestion, but I think it could look quite interesting and unique if you gave the 7 a different color (let's just say black for now), and extended the stem of the 7 below the red box at the bottom.

Try out the word "studio" in the same font as the 7. Looks artsy, and I think that will look better.

Don't forget, your logo (as a few others said above) is a representation - not an explanation. You can create an entirely separate slogan (explaining what you do in an effective way) that your logo can accompany on certain items, or be branded separately on other items.

I have made some changes. All the wording uses the same font. I centered the 7 and moved over the creative and design. Now if I could figure out how to post the new design without having to start a new thread.
