logo variations

I know this variations sheet is way more than I would show to a client. I love being able to alt-click and drag in Illustrator. Is this going in the right direction or do I need to represent what I do more? I went out and sat by a creek in the woods with my dog so my mind is a little clearer now than it was at 3am.

for my website.
This is being developed for Springwood Designs. My website is in the upheaval stages also (See previous critique post)
Any comments welcome.

It's not really clear what
It's not really clear what these shapes are? I'd recommend first thinking about your business -- you are a freehand artist, but you don't necessarily have to use a paint brush or the oval thing you put the paint on (Brain fart!) in your logo.
What message do you want to impart to your chosen audience/clients?

Funny Faces
I agree, these don't convey a representation of your company at all. I don't know what the shapes are or what they are stylized from. They kind of look like smashed faces with big eyes.
Try thinking about these questions a little, see if it creates any ideas.

I was trying to go with the image of a tree and creek playing on spring-wood.
Kinda like the mechanic driving around in a beat up car, I have been struggling with my own personal logo.
I'll get back with this one. Thomas Edison discovered hundreds of ways NOT to build a light bulb:) Gotta get the bad ideas out first.
I'm not stubborn, I'm PERSISTENT
it about motivationg
it about motivationg yourself and getting inspired.

You're on the right track
You're on the right track when it comes to exploring options. I would consider this page of logos one option. Try 2 different logo thoughts as well from entirely different perspectives.

Inspiration
funny how inspiration is something that no amount of money can buy. At least this isn't a deadline project.
I have been doing some drawing, standing up at my easel. It seems to flow differently when you draw from your whole body like that.
Went on a "field trip" to a marketing/branding firm yesterday to get ideas (espionage:)
Thanks for the links. There is a diverse range of incredible work out there. I especially like the FormFiftyFive stuff. I tend to be a competitive person so viewing others' work has a way of lighting a fire.
I will keep you posted, gonna let this one simmer for a minute.
Postive/Negative Space
Before reading that you wanted to convey a road, I saw an alien, or very stylized cartoon head w/ big (and at times odd) eyes.
