Logos for a construction company
tpvision (6 pencils) | Fri, 2008-03-07 11:17Hi guys,
This is my first post. I am supposed to design a new logo for a construction company based in Dubai. The company is called Alec and they've been around for thirty years. Their current logo can be seen on their website http://www.alec.ae
All of these are work in progress. So there a couple of visual glitches. The first two is simple and hopefully self explanatory. The second one is a bit unconventional and it reflects...well...the logo should say it out loud otherwise it doesn't work. The fourth one is an improvement on their existing logo with the same concept as the first two.
Be as honest as you possibly can I guess. Let me know what visual glitches you come across as well.
Cheers

I really like the first of the second line. Simply answer, because I know that you agree with me, aren't you? This one is more detailed (work with the classical hand sketch and the solid letter at the right) the center line is just like a scanner... Modern context but still with the a idea of "hand-made" or exclusive, great!
The only point to consider here is... where will you probably apply this logo? For a business card, depending of the layout, the thin lines will disapear and the different tones of blue demand to print with CMYK, what can make this cards lose the quality and increase the cost.
Think about it.
Agree. Left one, bottom row is the best. Like how you've conveyed the blueprint/arch. style. And as Duffs said, you'll need to take care with the fineness of the art. For print, I wouldn't go below a .88 pt. line weight--it holds its own on the litho. press without being too weighty.
You could even toy with dropping the A altogether and having the name ALEC big and bold and half hand rendered.

Very nice. I might make the line of text on the bottom a bit longer, though, for balance.

Love it! I prefer the font of the top left in the name "ALEC" with the deeper red color. Maybe extend the red line - broken of course by "ALEC" - below and place "Building Excellence" to its right.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the feedback. I am glad it was positive. initially I wasn't too happy with those logos. I agree with duffs and 3dogmama that as far as applications are concerned the third logo can prove difficult. But I am cleaning up the colours and the line weights as suggested. I agree with changing the font and increasing the size of the bottom tagline. I appreciate all your comments. If you have more please do write again.
Cheers
