Long distance
dhayn (179 pencils) | Mon, 2006-05-01 13:44Right now I've got a client a couple hundred miles away and another over 1,200. I have been dealing with them over the phone (skype) and also by email but I wonder how other people handle working with long distance clients.
Does anybody have any simple collaboration tools they use for marking up sketches/images or for jointly editing and reviewing text too?

I dont use them that much myself, but have a look at 37Signals applications, especially Basecamp.

There's a good desktop sharing tool called www.logmein.com which allows you to control and watch a clients desktop. It's unfortunately PC centric with a bug that stops it from working on Tiger, but not Panther.
You might consider using a blog system to have a set of text that can be edited by multiple users. I use Wordpress for a similar system. Google bought Writely which was specifically set up for this purpose.
For keeping track of deadlines across the zones I use iClock to know which clients are in bed and which are at their desk. I covered the setup of these here.

Long distance clients are a great opportunity to learn the different business cultures spread through the globe but don't expect your sleep patterns to be anything but erratic. ;)

looks like what I want to do, it's the open source basis for the flickr notes system. I think I might see if I can make this work with a blog.
I just don't really like how it stores the notes in the headers of the image.
