Looking for a good Photoblog application

kenyabob's picture

I previously did a weblog project for school, in which I did a whole lot of writing and used Wordpress, which I loved.

Now I am moving on to something a bit more personal in which I will make smaller posts, but more frequently, accompanied by a photo. So, I wondered if there was any way to accomplish this with Wordpress or if anyone out there had a strong suggestion for another platform? Any ideas?

like this - http://z6.co.uk ?

I just created a template and upload a new page each time I post, which isn't that often so I don't need to worry about too many files etc.

I tried blogger etc and found it was easier just to go back to basics.

Not quite. That doesn't give

Not quite. That doesn't give me the feature for archives, at least an easy option.

You can try Flickr

You can try Flickr (www.flickr.com), it's not a real blog application but you can supply text so.. you can use it as a blog app if you want.

I use Wordpress and Flicr

I love the setup, and was going to write a blog post about how easy it is.

What I would do:
Download the plugin WP Flickr Post Bar
Configure the plugin, it is pretty easy

Now to do a photo post.

Step 1) Upload photo using Flickr uploadr. It will automatically resize the photo if you want.
Step 2) Login to your WP admin, write a post and right below the post will be your last 12 uploaded Flickr photos. Click on what you want and it will spit out the code in your post
Step 3) Publish

You can check out the finished project here: Andrew Hyde
If you stop by, leave a comment, let me feel the CB love.

Pixelpost

I think what you are looking for is a photoblog program.
One of the best around IMO is Pixelpost.
You can tweak it the way you like to give it your personal touch. You can comment on your uploaded photo's like in a blog.
I wrote a small tutorial to setup Pixelpost:

Good luck!

Pixelpost was really on the

Pixelpost was really on the right path, but there seems to be almost no development, not to mention, sometimes people want videos or flash files in the main windows instead of static photo content. Pixelpost doesn't provide that, though I must say, its the most convincing by far!

If you are looking for something that requires no thought

Picasa from Google in conjunction with a blogger account will do the job fairly easily.

You can just post directly from Picasa, having done basic cropping etc. Certainly struck me as the quickest way by far. (Please note I am very lazy in these things, and frequently fail to update my own sites)

If you are comfortable with WordPress

If you are comfortable with WordPress you could try integrating Qdig with it. it takes a little work, but I've written a small guide that should help.

Have a look at the demo site first to see if it fits your requirements:
Qdig integrated with WordPress

And if it does here is the link to the How to Integrate Qdig with WordPress guide. To be honest it is for the Kubrick theme but you once you get that going you could use it with almost any theme.

Post a link when you get your photoblog up and running, I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

Any updates on the subject

Any updates on the subject of photoblog programs?

I did a photoblog based on WordPress, and I think the software is very good. However, I'm looking for a better theme for it.

This what I have so far: http://fo2oz.waleedsgallery.biz/

Photoblog

As a photoblog, I can recomend BlipPhoto, a photobloghost that works perfectly but it's still in a beta stage. It's free, and it's easy. You can only post one picture a day, but if you don't post a picture today, you can post two tomorrow. You can decide if you want people to comment your work or not, or if you want people to give you an evaluation (1-5).

Take a look.
