This was created for a friend of mine who participated as volleyball coach for the US Olympic team.
It falls in line with a series of posters hung throughout Louisville, KY.

To help separate the words, you could try reversing LOUISVILLE'S from a U.S. blue background, and the word PAM from a U.S. red background. And reverse a star out of the "A"...plays double duty to being a star and part of the U.S.

This doesn't work. Honestly, the audience only cares about her in the context of olympic volleyball, but I don't see any volleyball going on. The composition is static- if we're talking sports here, we should see some action.
All in all, this is a very boring and safe design.
Louisville has more PAMs...

Pam.....Who? I think her last name should be on here too. Maybe a typeface without such variation of thicks and thins - adds to the visual clutter (with the stars and stripes and colors).
