If you are using Adobe Creative suite (obviously) you may not benefit from the speed of the Intel Duo since CS will run under emulation until the new CS3, which should run natively. So if you are craving more speed and getting by with the ram in your system, put a lot more. This will speed up your system and will make switching between open applications a breeze.

The "G5" Macs are called that because they have PowerPC G5 processors in them. The G5 is the successor to the G4 as the G4 was to the G3.

Apple's current Intel Macs use Core Duo processors and their new pro desktop replacement to the PowerMac G5 (purportedly called the "Mac Pro") is expected to use the Core 2 Duo. There will be no G6, at least not in any new Apple computer.

At any rate, Intel is releasing the Core 2 Duo processors very soon and Apple is expected to release or at least announce the "Mac Pros" at the WWDC in August. Keep in mind that if you're using Abode products, there won't be Intel native versions until they release CS3 sometime in 2007, *****so these new models may not be faster than your 2GHz G5***** in that respect, in fact they might be slower.

The "G" moniker is Apple's name for the processors, not Motorola/IBMs. They "could" continue using the "G" series name, but they won't - simply because of marketing - not anything to do with processors.

That being said, the end result is the same. There will be no G6 name, nor G anything at this point.

I also kinda laugh when I see these "I need more speed" posts. If you're using the top of the line Mac loaded with RAM, and you're working in the Web/Online biz - you simply don't need more speed, nor will you get much more with the new processors. At some point, enough is enough. Are you telling me that Dreamweaver doesn't open fast enough on the high end Mac right now???
