Mac Illustrator CS3

Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem. Document created in CS3 in spot colors. Separation check confirm spot colors. Document then saved for old user in Illustrator 8.0 and Illustrator 9.0. When reopened by vendor, document reverts to cymk. Driving me crazy. Thanks for any solutions.

I was
unable to reproduce your problem.
Made a file with pantone spot colors (solid coated pantone book), saved it as a 9 version of illustrator and reopened it.
I don't have version 9 anymore so I reopend in CS1.
Spot colors are still there
Have you tried sending them
Have you tried sending them a pdf of your file? Might preserve the colors.

i was also going to suggest
i was also going to suggest a pdf.
Do u have transparency or any effects . . .
in there? It will flatten the file when saving down and covert the space. . . check that and let us know.

Get a different vendor
Why are you using vendor that are still on Illustrator 8 and 9? The vendor are in the dark ages in the most serious way.
You can't just abandon
You can't just abandon people because they use older software. Thats why there is an option to Export to older versions.
Is this problem resolved?

there's a difference between
there's a difference between abandoning a client because they use severely outdated software and abandoning a vendor who uses outdated software.
if the current version of a program is 13 and a vendor is still on 9 and won't upgrade, i won't use them. they're not committed to their customers.
that said, the OP didn't say this was a vendor, so it's probably a customer and gloria misunderstood.
The OP did say vendor
"When reopened by vendor, document reverts to cymk."
Right in his description of his problem.
it also says "Document then
it also says "Document then saved for old user," which sounds to me like they were saving it for a client, who then sent it to the vendor who then had problems with it reverting to cmyk.
it's not exactly clear who is requiring it to be converted to IL8.
i agree with you that if it's a vendor, time for a new vendor. but it may still be the client with the requirement.
In the business world,
In the business world, clients and customers are abandoned for less. Staying up to date with software is something, I feel, a good vendor should do.
