Change Case with OS X Services
Ivan | Mon, 2010-08-09 19:04While I'm a veteran OS X user and I only recently discovered the highly useful Services feature in the OS. The Services menu is always found under the active application's name in the menubar and can be configured to match your exact needs.

For example I frequently get text from clients in various formats and I need to change the case of the copy. Some applications have built-in change case command and there are websites that help you with the task such as convert case.
But I wanted to save a few clicks and have a consistent way to change case across different applications. So I installed a small Service add-on called ChangeCase that gives me the following commands under the Services menu:
- ALL CAPS — Turns all selected text into all caps.
- All lowercase — Turns all selected text into lowercase letters. The most useful of all.
- CamelCase — Removes spaces and Capitalizes every word. Mostly used for brand names, such as AstroTurf, but it can be useful to create file names without spaces.
- Toggle Case — Turns uppercase into lowercase and vica versa. Can't think of a use for this one.
- Word Capitals — Capitalizes every word. Mostly used for headlines and titles.

To install this service just download it and place it under System/Library/Services/, then restart (or logout) and enable it under System Preferences / Keyboard / Keyboard Shortcuts.

LOVE IT! Holy cow. One time somebody gave me a small booklet that was typed in all caps. That was around '92 - so there wasn't anything like this. I had to do a find/change on every letter, then go thru and recap the first word of every sentence. Didn't take nearly as long as the time I billed them - but it was still a total pain in the rear.
Where is 'title case'?
I want every word after a period to be capitalised?
living on dreams and custard creams.
I emailed the developer in Australia and he's going to do it. And it will be called Sentence case. Thank you both of you!
Amazing!

Wow, this is amazing. Every month, we print a newsletter, and every month, there is one article I get that is ALL CAPS. It drives me nuts! Not to mention, the Editor of the newspaper hates paying me to change it, but won't change it himself!
I cant wait to use it next month!
