Keep your copy of Quicktime 7 before upgrading to Snow Leopard
Ivan | Mon, 2009-09-14 00:32Just a quick word of caution. If you need the extensive export features of Quicktime Pro, make sure you backup the application before upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6. Snow Leo overwrites your old QT and will offer less options. After the installation you can simply move back the Quicktime 7 application into a different folder or renamed to differentiate from the new version.

Actually, there's an option to keep Quicktime 7 when installing Snow Leopard, and it will be moved to the Utility folder.
Yes, that's a good idea.
Yep, and this seems to be the default when upgrading, at least for me.
Hmm ... If I try to start the Quicktime 7 Player I get a dialog, that I can't use this Player with Quicktime X. I guess with the clean install (erase before), It also seem to be, that you can't install it after the upgrade with downloading from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
I lost it. : (
If you need I can email you a copy of QT7.
This article is totally incorrect. If you had QuickTime 7 Pro installed in Leopard, the Snow Leopard installation simply moves your QuickTime 7 to your Utilities folder. If you didn't have QuickTime 7 Pro installed in Leopard, you can reinstall it by using the "Optional Installers" package that is included on the Snow Leopard DVD. This is widely documented on the web, and on Apple's own website here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
Thanks for the correction!
Snow Leopard automatically save Quicktime 7 Pro, you'll find it in the Utilities folder once you've upgraded.
Surprised?
ouuuuuu ahhhhhh
Macs are buggy!

wish I would have read this 3 hours ago :(
love what you do, do what you love
However... if your hard drive crashes (like mine did), and Apple replaces it and you have to use Time Machine to restore your software, Time Machine will not move your QuickTime Pro 7 to your new drive - or the Utilities folder. I had to move it over manually!
But thanks for reminding me that i still had a copy I could move over! I was about to have a fit about the lack of export functionality in the new QT. That's just silly.
