In Panther Apple introduced the Finder sidebar, which takes up a lot of screen space, which is especially annoying on the iBooks.

You can regain that lost space by dragging the divider between the sidebar and the rest of the Finder window to the left. It will snap to a size where only the icons are visible. Although most default icons are easy to recognize, if you have new folders dragged into the sidebar, you will have generic folder icons. You can either add icons to these folders or just roll over them and read the popping up names of those folders and servers.

You can also try to get used to the column view in Finder. It’s very usable except that so far I couldn’t find a way to sort the files in this view. They always appear in alphabetical order.
