Quick Definitions in OS X

To quickly get the definition of word, simply press 'command+control+D" and hover the word with your mouse.
Additionally, press F5 in the middle of typing a word to get the proper spelling, and a list of similarly spelled words.
(I set my definitions list to be F4 in the system settings-->keyboard and mouse, for ease of use).
(I apologize in advance if the key combo wording is not correct. Being a new switcher, I've not yet learned the new keys' names)

good one
I knew about the Apple-Ctrl-D, but didn't know the F5 shortcut. It's VERY useful for me. :)
Too bad my primary browser FF isn't written in Cocoa, therefore the quick dictionary lookup won't work. :?
Off: I'm seriously thinking to switch back to Safari since there are so many cool features in it that you can't have in FF for daily browsing. FF is way ahead as a developer browser however. Nice to have two good options. :)
Thats amazing!
thats f-king amazing, you guys do more for converting windows users than you know!
"our Apple in heaven, please forgive my sins ... "
Crazy Cool!
Both tips are great, and even though I have been using OS X since beta, I just discovered (while playing with this tip) that you can use + to scroll a page in Safari.
I love that no matter how much you think you know, there are always more hidden treasures in OS X.
Like... Spellcheck as you type in this form field, and other strange but infinitely useful keyboard shortcuts. It's fun to just play with ctrl and alt and cmd in several combinations within each app just to learn new things.
A MILLION KOOOOOOOL for that
A MILLION KOOOOOOOL for that !
Very nice.
I had heard of the definition feature a little while ago and it's very nice. However, I can't seem to get that F5 feature to work. What gives?
I also knew about
I also knew about command-control-D (such a fantastic feature it's a good reason for getting Tiger, why don't they advertise this?) but the F5 thing is new to me. It's probably easier for me to not use it, but handy nonetheless.
egon0119, press F5 before you've finished typing a word, a list'll pop up showing you possible words you want to spell.
And also
If you continue to hold down cmd and ctrl after hitting D you can then move the mouse about over the rest of the words on the page, thereby getting instant pop-up definitions for them. Nice little "wow!" feature for showing off to non Tiger users.
That's the best tip
That's the best tip ever!
Especially if you're not a native english speaker, this is real handy. I find myself using it more and more nowadays, when browsing the web, or reading email.
