Remove Dashboard icon from Dock

I don't know about you, but I have a pretty crowded dock. So, I tend to get rid of any icons that are not necessary.

To launch Dashbaord I alway use the F12 button and never use the dock icon. Luckily it is extremely easy to get rid of the Dashboard icon from the Dock. Just CTRL-click it and chose the Remove from Dock menupoint. You can put it back at any time by simply dragging the Dashboard icon from the Applications folder to the Dock.

If you don't ever use widgets you can get rid of Dashboard altogether to free up some memory.

But many assume Dashboard needs to be there to run all the time. In fact not. Dashboard can run without being present in the Dock at all unlike other applications that will always show up when running.

Sorry, if this is too basic. :)

I personally have no problem with DashBoard. . . some useful widgets there BUT I would VERY much like to disable SPOTLIGHT. . . its very counter-intuitive. . . i Mean I can never find what I am looking for! Anyone else agree with me on this?

I have been using Quicksilver and find it handy to find documents when I need them. . . much faster and easier!

The dock can be useful for opening files. Just drag the file over an app icon and it will launch in that app. If the file can't be opened by that particular app, the name of the app wont appear below it.

I use it most often for when I want to open a pdf in Preview instead of the usual Acrobat.

No need to hit the 'CTRL-click' to remove an icon from the dock as you can just click and hold for 1-sec or pull the icon directly off the dock and it will go up in smoke.

Also I like to use 'system preferences - dashboard and Exposé to set 'hot corners' on the monitor. Touch the lower right and dashboard appears. Lower left moves everything out of the way and take you to the desktop. In addition you can select any function keys for these and other actions.

I want to know how to disable and enable the simple removing an icon by dragging it out of the dock. My wife has MS and her hands don't always work correctly and she accidentally drags icons out all the time, disabling the dragging them out feature would be great as long as I can right click and remove still.
Thanks.

I don't think you can do that. Very interesting problem. :)
