Type faster with Snow Leopard

If you want to save on typing you can use Snow Leopard's built in Symbol and Text Substitution engine. Open System Preferences / Language & Text. Select the Text tab. Click the plus icon to add a new short code and the full text. This only works in the most common applications for typing, such as Mail, iChat and TextEdit unfortunately. If you need more extensive features check out this post on Textexpander.

Wow - I didn't know that existed! Think they'll start to add auto-correction features like we have on the iPhone? (Although I'm in the air about that - sometimes those auto-corrections can get annoying.)
This is a fantastic feature that I wish was more fully developed in the OS. But as usual, Apple chose to go with the bare minimum, so if you use apps other than Apple's, you'll most likely need TextExpander, Typinator or one of the other text-replacement apps out there.
I use TextExpander extensively for my writing and find it invaluable. If you do a lot of text entry for one particular client or topic, it really does save a LOT of time and repetitive keystrokes!
