Mac Pro is around the corner

I think that the new Intel Conroe chip is out it is a matter of days till the new Mac Pro replacing the current PowerMacs will be released. Question is how many chips? Apparently the OS supports a ridiculous number of CPUS. We can easily have an Octa Mac Pro within a week. Start saving guys. This is gonna rock!

Fantastic speed in the Universal apps but Creative Suite is the one huge stumbling block. There is no chance of running Photoshop at optimized speed for at least 9 months so you can see the Mac Pros as just an investment at the moment. Will realize their potential immediately for those who don't use Adobe apps but it would make more sense to invest in the Windows version of CS and run them in Boot Camp if that's where you're going to spend the majority of your time. The emulation could be fast but I've never heard of anything running faster under Rosetta.

Here are the rumored specs:

They don't sound very impressive to me. :/

We bitched and moaned for years about how Moto wasn't upping the speed. Now here we are, for the third year in a row where 2ghz is the rated speed on the PowerMac with both IBM and Intel chips. Adding more cores is pointless from a consumer standpoint where the uneducated masses judge a computer by chip speed and chip speed only. Granted, we're talking about pro buyers here, but even I'm sick of seeing 2ghz. How about 3ghz.

The RAM pre-installed is still a joke. 1 gig should be the minimum.

If we're stuck with the G5 case design I'm going to puke. It's the single ugliest computer Apple has EVER had. It's huge and unruly, and it's a pain in the ass to work with upgrades. The G4 case was MUCH better.

Ahhh, it doesn't matter anyway. These specs aren't a whole lot better than the top of the line iMac.

If those specs are final, then a 17" MacBook Pro looks like a good alternative. :-)
