Mac vs PC price comparison

Macs are cheaper in the high range and match up in the mid range, but it's a complex question. Read all about it here

I can confirm the Apple price advantage on high end computing.

Friends of mine are in the market for a new computer; have been using Windows machine for the past 10 years. She needs basic office applications and he wants the ability to work with A/V creativity apps. They both agreed with my suggestion to NOT buy low end and opt for high end, hopefully providing longevity and undoubtedly providing plenty of "horsepower". Having recently visited my home and witnessing a pretty thorough demo of my MDD 867, they were both shocked by what Apple is doing! They had absolutely no idea Macs could run MS Office and that the Mac interface (OS X) was so easy to learn and navigate.

I "armed" them with approximate specs (didn't want a salesman to be tipped off it's a Mac) from the G5 DP 2.5, 4 GB RAM, a 20" 3rd party monitor and most of the features of the included OS X A/V apps (iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, iDVD).

The results of their hunt proved the Mac was a better buy; the best price for a comparable Windows equivalent was $725 more!

They've now decided to wait a while, save a few more dollars and buy a Mac!!! They're also anxious to visit me soon and spend more time on my machine; they're hooked already!

Ivan, what a nice site, but it's sad that you seem to enjoy the Mac vs PC battles, because a lot of the threads are about Mac vs PC issues.

You shouldn't do that. I visit a graphics board where I seldom see people do that. The members even take time to mention in their posts both WIndows and Mac shortcuts.

In general these PC/Mac threads or popsts lead to nothing but childish flame wars. You said in another thread; the computer is just a tool. My reply to that is; then act like it.

Yes, I'm new, but these are the first few threads I read and I can ignore them and wait to say something about it when I have earned respect after 100 posts or just share my opinion right away. That's what I'm doing now, not to be disrupt this board, but to give my honest opinion in a free world we live in.

Competition is what keeps systems improving. If either system had no competition, I doubt that either would progress as fast.

True, but it has nothing to do with flame wars.

And you know what the funny part is? Microsoft Bill Gates even admitted that for Microsoft to improve even more they'll need competition, but let's be honest, there isn't any real competition in the desktop market.

This is how I see the Americans, a bunch of idiots:

Talk about starting a flame war. Where are you from anyway?!?

Interesting how the computer, the Machintosh, and Windows all come from a country of "idiots".

Stop quoting from other threads crap that pisses you off... WTF dude!? You're not showing any less idiocy by doing so...

Originally this part of the forum was titled anything goes, and it was open discussions. I enjoyed reading different peoples view on different topics. Now what I read is a lot of aggression, sorry your so angry. I'm not the one calling names, I'm just giving my side of it. Generalizing millions of people is bulls**t.

wings,

I think you'll find most of us are pretty civilized with our Mac/PC discussions. The few comparison threads I've read certainly haven't started any flame wars. But, as a die-hard Mac user, I do appreciate the humour in Windows user's turmoils.
