Macbook problems?
plugz (1244 pencils) | Thu, 2007-04-12 22:53Just wondering if anyone here has a MAcBook and has had problems with it?
I bought a black MacBook last year and have had issues from a couple of months after I bought it. Stupidly I just started saving more often so that when it did decide to do a random shutdown I wasn't losing anything important...
Unfortunately on Saturday, my MacBook, she die!
Started shutting down every ten minutes and then while attempting to diagnose the issue and reinstalling OS X the thing stopped even turning on.
So now I have a lovely 3-10 day wait for them to identify the problem and possible longer if they need to order parts. :o(
Fingers crossed it comes back better than ever.
Luckily I bought a 12" PowerBook G4 off a friend last month so I'm not losing money not being able to work.
I'm tempted to sell it on eBay and buy a Core2Duo version which seem to have less problems.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I wouldn't put any more money into an old MacBook. It sounds like you might need a new logic board, the cost of which would make a very nice deposit on a Core2Duo :-)
Tell us what they say, though. I'm curious.

So I'm not too bothered as they'll fix whatever problem it is for free anyway.
Fingers crossed I'll hear something soon, although their ten working days could mean I don't hear until the week after next.
I took it in to Micro Anvika who are an authorised serviced centre and while they take longer to do the actual repair, the other option of booking an appointment at the genius bar at the Apple store would have meant waiting 2 days for an appointment and then sitting in the store for hours waiting for my number to be called.
An experience I'm not keen to repeat.
You don't half notice little things that you take for granted on newer models though, the 2 finger scroll feature is great and going back to a normal trackpad is very annoying, also all my home audio system is wired with optical cables so I can't even listen to anything at the moment without headphones.
Pffft.

It's nice you won't have to pay. I have Apple's protection plan on my G5 and am so glad I did! I've had at least 4 times the value out of it so far. Wish I had it on my G4 PowerBook. It's starting to behave oddly. It's always something, isn't it?

...and at least when a Mac does go wrong, AppleCare generally has had the machine back to me in under a week with no problems, arguments or effort as opposed to the lengthy battles I used to have to do with my PC manufacturers.

I'm beginning to regret not taking it to the Apple store now...
Micro Anvika appear to be the slowest people in the world.
No news and they have no idea when it'll be ready.
I want my MacBook back. :o(

They only just looked at my MacBook on Thursday after having had it for 16 days and they have ordered parts, which depending on whether or not they are in stock may arrive on Monday to be fitted sometime next week.
I've gotta say I'm not overly impressed.
AppleCare have stopped dispatching boxes for you to send things back to base in now and advise you take it to your nearest authorised service centre. Compared to the service I got with my last iBook which was back in my hands within 3 days of being sent to Apple, this experience sucks.
I don't see why the service levels differ between the free and paid for AppleCare, especially when the service centres are as shoddy and overloaded as this one.
If anything goes wrong again I'll be demanding a box to ship it back in.
That said I may just bung the bloody thing on eBay and upgrade to a Core 2 Duo

:D
At last!
They had it for 30 days in total.
I won't be taking it back to Micro Anvika should it ever fail again.
Apparently the logic board had failed and I must say it's running better than ever with it's new innards.
The temperature of the machine is dramatically lower too.
I'm just thankful to have Intel power back again, but I won't be selling my G4 any time soon... just in case.
