I think you overdesigned the page. One idea to have the letters looks like snowfall is enough in my opinion. The special type and the huge letters on the bottom make the layout cluttered. Look at some expensive magazine designs and see how well whitespace is used. Give your artwork and type lot of breathing space. Be generous.
Not too bad. I like the text used as snow. You might consider making the smaller letters in the "snow area" transparent to create the illusion of depth. I definitely agree with Ivan on getting rid of the "Icee" snow covered text. You can pick a "cold" font without choosing a font that has snow on it.

I dunno, its kinda "cute" to me... the type is like that off of bags of ice you can buy here, and it looks more like a kids winter holiday article, i think a strong image of the environmental change would have more impact and relevancy, like doing something creative with this image from corbis http://pro.corbis.com/images/JB003558.jpg?size=67&uid={dabb0c9d-52fc-4f36-aa81-57d85d1844a5} i dunno, just my thoughts, after a 16hr work day mind you :)
good luck with it!

You must really love what you do.. very nice mockup..
Thanks for your feedback and inspiration.
Nice layout!
i just realized though its for your typography class so my mockup probably would have ended up with shit mark. just have fun with the type then... the other post about the font for ice age are great... try playing with the type and fonts, maybe a snowflake or asterix for the x in next, an iceberg shape/wrap for the body copy, i dunno, just chucking stuff out there.
