magcloud and lulu
gwells (1711 pencils) | Wed, 2009-03-04 15:46just finished a personal project on www.magcloud.com and it went very well and the end product was pretty good quality.
so... what is it? magcloud is a magazine publishing site. you're limited to one size (8.25x10.75) and page counts from 4 to 60, but it's printed on an HP Indigo press and on what looks like a 100# dull or matte text paper. my photos came out very well and it got exactly what proofed on the screen/site as far as bleeds and alignment.
basically magcloud is a bulk publisher that gang prints magazines for you. they'll print one or 20 or 1200 for you. or you can put them up public on their site and people can order and they mail them to you. $0.20/page +$1.44 shipping (or at least that's what my shipping was, and per piece). so my 32p self-cover magazine cost $7.89 shipped.
i've also done a couple of tests on lulu.com and had decent results as well. print quality was a little better at magcloud, but lulu is a slightly different process and has many more options (sizes, bindings, etc).
anyone else done anything like this? what/who did you use? was it successful? quality and cost?
