Making a studio homepage.

I have been thinking about a homepage for my studio. I made about 30 different designs, 12 of which are on the computer in usable format, but I don't like them. Any suggestions?

It would have to have the following pages:
- Intro
- Portfolio
- Photography
- Goodies
- Widgets
- Services
- Contact

Every good design needs a concept. (...except there are no rules in design). So, first of all you need to identify why are you different and/or better and/or special , etc. What is you unique selling proposition as they call it in marketing. If you don't have one, invent one.

Once you have that on paper clearly in front of you the design will follow. One of our members site features citruses, because the concept is that his designs are fresh and the parallel is made between fresh fruits and fresh ideas. I like that approach a lot. That site sticks to my mind.

You need to come up with a similar idea based on your speciality. You do fast work? Theme your site as drag racing. Your work is exceptionally precise? Make the site look like as if it was a swiss watch. Your design is sexy? Make a spoof porn site. There are themed sites, but you can go in completely different directions, but a big concept idea has to be there. The idea should drive your design.

Hope I helped.

Couple of days ago I managed to finally break free from the annoying small bits of work for clients (for a while anyway ;) ) ... so I too have decided its time I get my website online again, reinvent my image and everything that goes with it. The advice helped Ivan, thank you. I always try to put the designing on a back burner and decide on what it is I actually want to say, anyone can knock up a design or 50 if need be, but actually saying something is the bit that makes or breaks it!

Thanks again, Its always good to here reassuring comments to know im going in the right direction :)

The thing I think hampers most design sites is overthinking every single detail before you put a finger to the keyboard. I was stalling on my website 2 years ago and then one day I said "bugger it" and just started building it. Every site is a work in progress and realising you'll be regularly tweaking it helps in not being too precious about the first version. You are not perfect. Neither will your website be.

Having it online also gives you some incentive to make sure the updates are done on time.

Your design is sexy? Make a spoof porn site.

Are you sure this is such a good idea? ;-)
I don't even know what a spoof porn site looks like btw.
Thanks for the suggestions though everyone, I'll give it a go!
