McDuffy's Sports Grill Logo

Hi Everyone,

Someone told me about this website and said it was a great place to get some professional feedback.

I'm fairly new to the graphic design world, just started getting in to it since my brother and I took over a local sports bar in Phoenix, AZ that has a lot of history there.

I've been putting together a new logo design and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or comments about it that might help steer me in the right direction for the design. Any help is greatly appreciated, as I'm still learning.

Thanks a lot,

Brendan

Too much text for a standard logo, and the text will be hard to read at a smaller size. Might work for an image printed on the back of a shirt or the front if you do not mind if men have to get close to the waitress too read it.

I like it and it does look like you put a lot of work into the text I just wonder how it would work at a smaller size, I guess it all depends on where it is going to be used.

Look at the thumbnail. "Chandler, AZ" "EST. 1988" and "SPORTS GRILL" are all gone.

The letter "c" lost and it will only read "M DUFFYS". This concept looks like early 1920 time, too much text, too much scaling. Tell me why do you need to add establishment year and name? Using brand name will work so focus on your brand name and remove all words. You can add one punch line for logo thats it.

nice first effort! but what everyone says about it not holding up when reduced is correct.

for logos, think more negative space and fewer small fonts and thin lines

I agree with everyone about the reduction, however this would never be smaller than the width of a facebook business profile picture, so about 180-200 pixels. But now looking at it even in that size, things do tend to get lost. So thanks for that Input.

I have another question though: Is there any problem with the font style? It's a slightly bolder version of their old logo and it's what everyone knows the place as. So I'd like to keep it, if it works. This was also the reason for putting the "EST. 1988," to remind people of its history in Phoenix.

Also, It's good to know that it has a very retro or 1920's look. I was trying to mix modern with a very old logo type to give it a slight nostalgic feel.

Excellent first try, but like everybody else said, the reduction is the main problem. That slight gradient is bugging me too. Never been into sign making, but I don't know how well that would translate into a sign. There needs to be a little more of a hierarchy.

I'm going to print it out and eat it.

Yes, yes... all good points. "Chandler" and "1988" should come out altogether - put "Sports" on top and "Grill" on the bottom (imho). But most importantly? Forget this weird ass star shape - take that stretched rectangle around "McDuffy's" and drop it on a separate diamond in the background (or an oval... or another rectangle...). That will give you some hierarchy to work with and you can add some of those nice details that make these types of pieces so fun to do... maybe some pinstripes or bars hanging out the side, yada, yada VAROOOM! Have some fun with this. It's still too Texas steakhouse for me. Sports is FUN. And keep an eye on the little things - your inlines and outlines are all different widths.

Awesome!! This kind of feedback was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for all the help with this.

Everyone raised some great points. The only thing I'd add is that it reminds me of the "Everlast" logo.
