Mid-Level delegated admin rights to kill spam posts...?
Jon Askill (362 pencils) | Thu, 2011-12-15 15:13We need a voting system, or some delegated user admin powers to enable swift removal of this spam crap. There's been a wave of spam lately and it's been allowed to linger for too long!
We can all spot it a mile off, and just thought that if powers were granted to a few 'trusted' users, we could self regulate the site and eliminate this spam - which I find offensive - as a ever more cynical man of the world :)
The self regulation suggestion might be more trouble than it's worth, but I doubt i'm alone in my frustration...?

Believe it or not, plenty of people CANNOT tell the difference. They get a bunch of responses.
The attackers on this site aren't typical spammers, they're all real people doing SEO manipulations. They don't care if you read their posts, they're only here to get links on a popular site to improve their Google page rank. I would consider not allowing HTML in the comments/blog. Having to use plain-text links would be a minor inconvenience for real users, but 100% stop this type of spam.
Yes, I think you're right and probably the most effective method, plus it's rare that we need to follow any link to external sites from CreativeBits - in my experience anyway.
Ideally though, i'd like two or three nominated admins to have the power to delete posts and ban users, as the spam would be eliminated within the day, as opposed to two, three or four days, which is pretty bad.
Interestingly, after a quick flit through, Brands of the World hasn't any spam at all...

It's ok, I clean it every day, just been busy the last 2 days. We have a few users with spam reporting permissions.
How ironic!!!
