Minor League Baseball

Basically this team, the Newark Bears wanted a new logo. They had someone do their new logo for virtually nothing but allowed us to pitch them a few logos and if we could wow them over they would let us do the logo.

This was my submission, the client really wanted to emphasize the bears ferouciousness. Newark is pretty much a tough town and the logo should be reflective of that. We didn't get the business. See what they chose.

This one you designed is much more agressive, but at the same time, kind of cartoony and funny. I think what they liked about the logo on the site is that's it's more serious. I think if you would've made your logo a bit closer to a real bear image and shade it more they would've choosen yours. But I realize it's hard to guess such minute diffences in client's taste.

Also, I like the logotype they have on the site's background, wonder why they don't use it in their logo.

Thanks for posting, nice example of how important to have luck with you clients in this business.

Yeah good points about the logo, I made it somewhat mascotty and cartoony on purpose. Since it is minor league ball, its very kid friendly and family friendly since ticket prices are so low. My logo was thinking more of merchandising the logo and creating a family friendly but aggressive feel about the team. It was really a crapshoot since the brief was so vague. Oh well!

The Modesto Nuts is definetly worse. I like your logo, although I do agree its catoony. I think the logo they chose, especially the font it uses is bang on for a sports team font. The chosen logo also has a similar form factor found in sports leagues.

Good job though!

Most of the stuff I do is sports design and although it takes the same creativity to come up with mascotty type logos its almost like another world. Every one wants something completely unique but they don't want it any different that what is already out there. I do 20 shirt design a month that just have the schools name, property of or est.some date, sports name, and it is all in stahls varsity or some college font, and no type treatment besides some arcing of it. Its hard to be creative when you only really have the guidance of someone who's most creative thought during the day is what pitch I should throw. (Nothing against baseball, its americas pastime.)
