ItalianMike (301 pencils) | Sat, 2011-11-12 10:22A website I just completed for a digital fashion magazine and a network of fashion based blogs. Built using the multi-user function of WordPress. Theme is completely original and built by me. Layout is done with HTML5. Magazines are embedded via Issuu.com, which unfortunately still doesn't offer a non-Flash version for iPhone and iPad.

Ciao Italian Mike
lets start with the site, I think the font choice is fine for your target market, you don't want it to stand out too much, the images and photography should do most of the talking.
for a fashion site however, your site does not scream 'fashion' to me, some floral elements or even silhouette people posing might work well just to enhance the design a bit.
Try adding some sharp design elements around buttons, edges and banners.
Check out Templatic.com for some ideas on wordpress magazine templates, they have very good magazine templates that you might be able to steal ideas from and incorporate in to this design
a number of your photo choices for the homepage don't seem to work very well, the blue 'clean' image needs to be much better designed, the 'Tavla & Vinn' image has too much going on in it, need to simplify that one.
when I visited the site my mouse was all over the place looking for something to click, so you should aim to have a stronger 'call to action' on your homepage, the magazine is probably the most important thing, so make it so.
where you have the magazine cover on the homepage, try adding an 'click me' or 'open me' element somewhere that tempts viewers to click on the mag
its visually pleasant, and straightforward. but there isnt much more to say about it from a design standpoint. header, nav, content blocks. done.
a pretty accurate representation of the current state of "web design."
The subheads (and even the main head) are totally disappearing for me. Especially since most of the photos have type on them as well.
The layout could be a bit bigger, a more responsive design would be far more superior as far as readability is concerned. The only thing I can read comfortably without squinting or having to get close or zoom is the article headlines. No text, no links.
Resolution: 1680x1050
PS: Your leading is too tight for me to be interested in reading copious amounts of text.
You need a clear hierarchy. What's important? What's the newest news? You have several focal points fighting for my attention, with the result that I don't feel like settling on any one of them.

this is web/press standard.
we can add 4-5 pictures on same place now. there is no need to grid such big areas for them nowadays
yes I'm brazilian xD
