Monitor recommendations? - Advice and opinions wanted...
plugz (1244 points) | Wed, 2007-04-25 04:10I'm torn between two screens at the moment although open to suggestion for others.
I need a new screen at home as I'm increasingly home based these days and my laptop screen isn't cut out for long spells in Photoshop etc.
I'm looking at a 22" widescreen model but can't decide which one to go for.
I was planning to get a Samsung SyncMaster SM226BW, which I planned to use as both a monitor and also get an Elgato TV tuner for my MacBook so I could replace my TV and cut down on the clutter but then discovered the LG M228WA on preorder that has a TV tuner built in and is cheaper than the Samsung.
At the end of the day the single most important thing is the performance for graphics and my work and any other functionality is secondary so I'm a little hesitant to go for the LG.
Also I believe Samsung panels are superior to LG and there is the added benefit of a glossy screen which the LG doesn't have.
I'm drawn to the Samsung and have it on pre-order but having seen the LG it's made me think twice as it's not only £40 cheaper but would also mean not having to purchase a separate TV tuner (approx £100) or have my MacBook connected to the screen all the time to watch TV which in itself would be a resource hog...
I'm just a bit wary of being drawn to the LG for the wrong reasons.
Any suggestions guys?

I think you should try and look at the screens in action before making up your mind. Specs and reality can be totally different things.
It's the best monitor I've seen in a long time.
I think I know the answer to the question already if I'm honest, my wallet strings were just having a little bit of a wobble this morning.
