More Business Cards
wmmarc (34 points) | Wed, 2005-11-16 05:30These cards are already made, but I thought I'd get feedback as to which was preferred, Blue or White. I may still change them, but I needed to get some made quickly and couldn't make up my mind which I like best. Your comments will help me decide which to have remade, or whether to start from scratch.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

It's a pretty cool logo. I like the blue, but I think the white would work better. Text kind of gets lost in that blue. There sure is a lot of it, and it's kind of cramped on there. The "WMSProductions" is kind of bothering me, looks like a compact and standard font, or a standard and extended font? And then the wide tracking on the URL at the bottom... I think you need to simplify the font treatments on there.
Just have a look at http://blog.sukip.com/2007/06/02/visiting-cards/
another interesting set of visiting cards
I can't really make out what the logo stands for. It looks like a AD&D shield. Is that relevant to what you offer? The text is very close to the logo and it looks busy. You need more white space. As Apfhex already mentioned "WMS Productions" needs more work. Hope it helps...
The logo was designed for a project I am working on. Everyone liked it but we decided to take the project in another direction. It's actually supposed to be a cross between puzzle pieces and directional arrows. I was afraid it was going to end up like some of my other designs... everyone likes and yet it never gets used, so I decided to use it myself. I needed to make some Business Cards and thought "Why Not" and made these. I may end up starting from scratch, but everyone seems to like these. My other cards get a lot of attention because they are made of vellum and are laminated, so they are translucent. Only problem was you couldn't write on them unless you had a Sharpie. I just like to set myself apart if at all possible. I will see if I can add the original sketch to this post. Thanx for the response, so far Blue & White are tied.

Definatly need more white space.
The card feels very crowded and I have to admit, your company name sticks out a bit too much... Its like its too squashed to fit in?
What if you have a double sided business card... With the graphic on the back centered, and then you can give your details on this side more room to breath.

I'd use the white one as the starting point and rework it so every element has a lighter relationship with each other. At the moment they are all fighting for space and attention. And the tightness of the company name compared with the looseness of the website creates a tension that adds to the busy-ness.
It doesn't need a total redesign, just consider where components sit in relation to the others.
I prefer the white one, it has more 'breathing room'. I also feel the company name is a bit too squashed - give it more space by making the logo smaller (or putting it on the back as jammo suggested?)
Having the 'WMS' in a more condensed font than the 'Productions' doesn't look quite right...maybe keep it all in a condensed font (but keep the different colours)
... and I agree with the suggestion to let the company name breathe a bit. Being so tight and with the font sizing the way they are it may come across as "WMSP Roductions"
You might consider the suggestion for 2-sided cards as well.. I recently redesigned my cards to be 2 -sided with the logo on one side and company info on the other- it seems to make everything seem much more airy and less like you forced it into the tiny space of a business card. Plus the icon on the left is pretty sharp so it may get even more compliments if seen by itself... more of an example of your work than a part of your logo.
You might try AmericasPrinter.com - you can get a 4/4 full color with UV Gloss on both very reasonably. You can also get the UV only on 1 side so you can write on the other if that is important to you.

For the next batch I'd put my URL in bold too. I agree with the comments about the head being so large that it crowds the logo.
You've also got fairly even line spacing right up until your page address which kind of ruins the flow.
You might consider increasing the spacing between lines overall for a more consistent feel. Ditto on adjusting the kerning.
What's the other side look like?
