More than a space?
I do a bit of freelancing and am just coming up w/ a logo for my "company." -- The name BoxedIn is rooted in the whole concept that all content is boxed in in some fashion: be it 8.5x11, a 15" monitor, a canvas, a biz card and so on.
The ones I'm mainly considering are on the left. And I'm curious to see which of the two y'all think is best (or if they suck and there's some great idea I'm missing? Is there a better way to compose the box planter? Should it not be a 3D box? Does that leaf over the "i" help unite the logo parts or does it just distract?) -- some scratch work is on the right.
I mainly do Web work, but now I'm wondering if I should be using a serif with that leaf illo...
Gratuitous extra info: The leaf design I think works here as it reflects nature, and trees have a certain knack for overcoming mans constrictions. Stubbed toes on sidewalks thanks to roots, anyone? -- That and I think it's purty.
Long time casual reader of the site, but new poster to the gallery.
Thanks in advance.

Bottom left is my favorite.
Bottom left is my favorite. I really like it. I would have it protruding through the box or something to kind of go "outside the box" a bit further. I don't know, definitely a great start.
I also like the start of the arrow one.
You could. . .
Use the nice thin font you have. Drop a rectangle around it in a 1 or 2 point line and have a small break one one side with the leaf/tree. That says 'boxedin' simply and clearly.

I like the bottom left one
I like the bottom left one also. Icon will make a good favicon!

misc. thoughts - first one
I'm leaning towards the one on the right column (under misc. thoughts) first one but I would add some color OR integrate the leaf in place of the dot on the "i". Also, I would play around with the letter "x" and the rotated box next to it ... sort of like create a custom "x" out of the letter x and the box. Aside from that I think you're on the right track. Keep it up!
great thoughts
those are some great thoughts. -- going to kick around with some more iterations over the weekend and will show you what develops.
thanks much!
Well, this one is a bit
Well, this one is a bit tough for me. I love the bottom left one, but it kind of looks like the the plant is growing in an aquarium of sorts. I like how clean the top left one is, but the plant/box is just too big and is too tall compared to the text.
I would have to say bottom left, and maybe make the box a little more transparent. :)

Perfectly Lost Designs
The two on the bottom come
The two on the bottom come across to me as votive candles, because the little leaf popping up out of them is shaped like a candle flame.
If you're determined to stick with the "boxed in" idea (which slugs it out with the traditional creative image of operating outside of boxes), then I think it might be interesting to use an image other than a seedling -- maybe something trying to emerge (creatively) from the box. I know your seedlings are trying to do just that, but this speaks Nature to me, not so much graphics.
Since I'm an avid gardener, the first thing I think of when I see a seedling in a little box is that it's one of those "peat pots" or something that you plant. It just doesn't hit me as a design company, sorry. Also, of course, as a raging environmentalist (complete with a photo of Al Gore on my kitchen wall), the combination of box (paper product) and tree (potential victim of same) is another at-odds-with-itself idea.
But all that aside, all of your graphics work nicely, I think, as pure graphics. The color logos all have a kind of collagey look (overlapping colored tissue, you know?) that's very happy.
Since you asked about the leaf over the "I," I'll offer that I think it's distracting and has nothing to tell about itself except that it's a leaf over an "I" -- what if you used the "I" as it came (you should excuse the expression) out of the box, but make it the same green as the leaf? That emphasizes your status as a freeelancer, a lone colorful designer living harmoniously in a system of solemn traditions.
Or not...

Great analysis Mara! How
Great analysis Mara!
How about a 'pixelated' leaf or paintbrush to represent design. I do agree that right now your logo could be confused with a greenhouse or other agricultural business.

Great Logo!
I like the logo - I agree with everyone about the lower left. I think you should keep the leaf. It's symbolic and clean looking. If you use a paint brush or something else like it, it would probably be too bogged down. But try it, I could be wrong.
Questionable Name
Your 3-D color logo is extremely well done and I really like your design style. However, I'm not sold on the name as it is filled with 'negative' connotations. [Without your explanation it really gives the impression that your ideas and work are 'boxed in' and 'restrained'.] I'm not asking you to consider changing it now but it left me wondering about your company.
In my opinion the logotype could better reflect the idea of 'boxy'. What about a square pixel font to help steer away from the 'garden' look and feel? Once I get a logo I like I'll often set it with 25-50 different typefaces looking for the right 'feel'.
I'd also consider how the color logos on the left would reproduce in BW and grayscale.
Overall, excellent work!
love it
love it love it! nice work. Love the top green designs. Creative NRG has a point though....
