Mute Business Card: Does it say enough?
Submitted by jHouse on Sun, 2008-04-13 12:22.
A friend and I have decided to set up a design company for weekends...before we can get enough work to quit our day jobs..as graphic designers! It's a long story..but here is my first idea for a business card.
We haven't really decided what to call it yet, but Mute Creative is a possibility. The idea behind it is that design doesn't talk..but speaks a thousand words.
What do you think to the logo and typeface?
Cheers

Well first of all I like the
Well first of all I like the simplicity of the card, but you need more elements, like tittle phone number website. Also I think you need some contrast, add another color maybe.
About the logo, I really think it's not working, I think you need a more clever idea, since you are a designer to convince people of your creative abilities.
Ok
Ok thanks for your advice :)
Can I ask, if you like the simplicity, why are you asking me to put more stuff on to it.
Why do you think the logo isn't working?
I wanted it to stay really really clean and simple.
Thanks for commenting.
I like the simplicity, and
I like the simplicity, and I'm not saying that it needs more things for design sake, but for information sake.
People need to know more about yourself. Like the number, and tittle. Let's say you give your card to someone, they receive it, put it along their other 10 different business cards, they won't know what to do, or they won't be able to contact you faster.
Your business card is like a
Your business card is like a mini portfolio. It doesn't say exactly about what you do. Pls put the title and contact info, I am not sure if it's okay not to put an address. So mutecreative.com is your website.
This card would act purely
This card would act purely as a contact card. Its not meant to be a mini portfolio..its not supposed to tell the client what we're like. When we meet a client, we give them a card after discussions/meetings. Like scribbling your email address down on a bit of paper. Just classier.
It serves as a mini
It serves as a mini portfolio for graphic designers card, a first impression or example of your design work that you are showing your prospect. Use some Psychology.
Sometime in the future, they might forget who you are & because it creates confusion you are not giving them a convenient way to contact you faster.
Maybe you can make the idea behind mutecreative to be your tagline. gl
Not Convinced.
Say your hypothetical client has met with others. Who have impressive cards and great designs. How will yours stand out among the others.
The shadow on the MUTE looks like text art! It looks really dated. And don't you think that The MUTE shouldnt be so LARGE. Its more like 'SHUT UP" rather than a simple, delicate Mute.
Try playing around with it.
The advice given previously I personally think would really be helpful to enhance this card.
Mute Creative is CLEVER..... try making a CLEVER CARD!!!
GOOD LUCK!
Thanks
Thanks for your opinion. The logo doesn't have a shadow..its an extrusion.
Thanks for commenting. DON'T SHOUT THOUGH!!!
The logo and typeface are
The logo and typeface are not working. I think you need to revisit the drawing board.
Like your base concept about mute though.

Call me crazy
But I just can't get excited about an ad agency named "Mute". Not when there are agencies with names like "FUEL ADVERTISING" or "SMALL DOG CREATIVE" or BAM!" or whatever. Mute kinda puts me to sleep.
However, if you're commited to Mute, then I must say I do like the logo. Check out the PMS - CMYK thread. A PMS double bump could be a nice way to show your brand with a 'muted' feel.
This card is a snoozer. If
This card is a snoozer. If you're commited to the agency name of "Mute," and have purchased the domain name already, etc., then I could understand how you might resist changing it. But really, it says "we don't say anything." Is that clever, or merely self-destructive? In some circles, creative people are traditionally thought to be self-destructive, but that's not a choice you have to make, is it? You might also want to consider that your name could be confused with some sort of service for deaf people who do not speak (some don't), or others who don't/can't speak for some reason.
The typeface you chose for "mute" is very clunky and old-fashioned, more like something you might have seen on a diner menu in the 1950s.
The pale gray ink is hard to read. It also would not copy or scan very well, if at all. The only contact info is your Web site. What if someone wants to contact you offline? You don't have a telephone, presumably. What kind of credibility does that give you?
The message this card sends is "ignore me." It tells potential clients that you are more likely to bury them in impractical, losing ideas than that you're going to be out-of-the-box clever and intriguing.
Sorry, buddy. Back to the cogitation stage, then hit the sketch pad.

yea, it also makes me feel
yea, it also makes me feel sleepy when I saw it combine together with the color and the slant of the the typeface of mute is like falling, fallin to sleep.
"design doesn't talk.." --> are you talking about the literal meaning?
"but speaks a thousand words." --> uhm... designer express or communicate it in a form of print and multimedia. Uhm.. you can hear it talking with voice, sounds in multimedia. In print, we use our eyes to receive that information, in multimedia we can use both our eyes & ears to receive and understand info.
The term "talk" can already be communicated by any means other than speech (oral communication), as by writing, signals, signs, body language (non verbal).
It doesn't make sense to me. I think your talking only about print design.
Too bad you didn't get
Too bad you didn't get 'muted' and your card could be an explosion of color (see the irony?)

Powerpoint is not a design application
I agree....
Start over dude. Im sure you can come up with something more creative.
OKAY!
WILL DO!
:D
What does it convey???
The extrusion doesnt make any sense. Why is it so 3d like at all. What message does it convey? The graphic too looks like Wordart!!! and it really looks sleepy...maybe a slight push and it would slump into bed.
ENOUGH!
OK! Thanks for all your comments about WordArt. It's getting tiring now.
I'm baring this all in mind...
Cheers
I admire your power, If you
I admire your power,
If you think you can or cannot, you are right.
errrrr
Thanks! But I'm not really sure what you're saying...
