looks very medical to me...

Creative use of white space.

The typography needs some love. Spacing between lines are way off.

It does look somewhat medical, but I can't help but think there's genius in that mark just waiting to be found. Somehow you need to deconstruct the S in the same manner as the H is deconstructed. Maybe just split the difference between the center bars so they touch? Broken H, broken S. Not sure what the answer is - but it's worth exploring, that's for sure.

The rest of it is way too anal for me. You never want to say "freelance" because Art's #1 Rule of Freelance Design clearly states....

"If you say the word "freelance" in front of a client, all they hear is the 'free' part."

The URL doesn't belong in the logo either. Just make it "Helen Scott - Print and Web Design" or "Helen Scott Design" - whatever. Something simple and clean.

good negative space learnings =]
agree with people. just improve spacing, alignment .
explore a better palette, this is so overused. why not orange or pink or purple for a stronger brand? tell us about this color preference.
the black type is over contrasting with logo palette.
separation bar is big enough and maybe you don't need it.

yes I'm brazilian xD

The positive space doesn't work for me, the visual cues for the H aren't working. I didn't even see it until reading the other comments.

Creating an interplay of H and S is tough. The H is straight, the S is all about curves. I think it might be more effective to go in a calligraphic, curvalinear direction which plays to the strength of the S, which helps since it's the negative space. The two pieces of the H can extend two interlocking curves can form the S and still work for the crossbar of H.

I actually like the idea and agree with @art D. rector, there is something in there that needs to be found, I kinda see it with the H and the S kinda overlapping each other but the S takes shape of a blocky S or like the number 5 representing the S. I agree with others on this, get rid of the freelance part and just leave print and web designer and on get rid of the website also. And on the Helen Scott part try playing with it instead of typing text. Play with the boldness, maybe a thick type for Helen and thin type for Scott would work, maybe. Well, Good luck.

Did you pay for that Gotham type?
It needs a opposite type with a serif for the line Freelanceprint etc.

Agree with Art as well...continue working up the H and negative-spaced S.
I would also try stacking your name below the mark and removing the line that separates.

Print & Web Designer could either go 2 lines beneath with a bit of space between or elsewhere at this initial stage....play with placement and font selections.

I think that art had a great idea that is worth to develop, i would definitely try to use a different palette although i actually love those two colors personally but might be to simple, maybe adding grey will add it something else remember grey and black are very elegant and sophisticated so you probably can use some of that :)
