My Personal Logo
DawningConcept (60 points) | Sat, 2009-09-12 00:55Hi everyone, I am working on getting my freelance business up and going so I can work at home to be with my son.
Attached is a logo I put the idea together for quite a while ago. I've been doing some tweaking, lately, and here is what I've come up with. (You can see the original as I've used it as my avatar)
I'm open to any and all critique.
Thank you.

Can you explain the concept behind it please
dsaunadesign.com
Hi, Heather. First, the reflection is unnecessary and doesn't help you at all. I would lose that. Like dsauna, I'm wondering what your concept is? What do the three circles have to do with "dawning concepts"? I should think you'd want some stylized variation on a sunrise, although that's probably something we'd criticize for being a cliché, or too obvious or something. Really, the circles? I'm thinking fish tanks, or blowing soap bubbles -- Dawn dishwashing liquid? Yikes.
Part of your problem, I think, is going to be with people wondering what "dawning concepts" means, rather than connecting it right away with your name. They'll wonder what "concepts" you mean; could be nuclear technology, New Age treatment modalities for diseases of the rich, or even something vaguely political.
Since "dawning concepts" is a play on your name, and it's such a nice name, why not just call your freelance company Dawn? It's short, catchy, and you can use a stylized sun more safely because the connection is more to your name than to the concept of dawn -- a fine but possibly important difference. If you want people to get what you do, why not ad "design" to the name? Dawn Design has a nice ring to it, although people might wonder what you design -- which is why I guess a lot of us opt for "graphics" instead.
This is something you reached back in time to show us. Do something fresh, of the now.

It's a pregnant mom being pulled over by the weight of her enormous belly.
The icon is cool, but like dsauna - I have no idea how it applies to anything.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. The concept I was going for is actually quite literal. When I started, I was going for a rising sun of some sort. The largest circle being the earth, the medium being the rising sun. As I went along I decided to have the circles represent the birth of new designs concepts being made into lasting designs.
I like the idea of using the name Dawn instead of Dawning Concepts. I do actually have the domain dawningconcepts.com and have for years. Dawn.com is taken unfortunately. dawndesign.com is, too.

can't see nothing special, it's like eat a bread without butter
it's predictable, terrific boring.
tipography is cheap.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Heather, I think you're asking people to make much too great a leap from those three circles to "sun rising over earth," with some other heavenly body thrown in for no particular reason. First, most people would assume the larger circle would represent the sun, given the relative sizes in the real universe of sun and earth. I strongly advise you to ditch this idea. It isn't working on ANY level. You have a fabulous name. Use it. It's too bad that the domain names Dawn.Com and DawnDesign.com are taken, but what about DawnDesign.net? It seems to be available. Perhaps your present host would allow you to change within the parameters of your current contract.
