That is just awesome.

Loads of personality and very unique. Congratulations, you can be really proud of this work.

Not only is your site beautiful, so is your portfolio ... I'm going to take another look ...

Nice and clean.

The site design is very pleasing to the eye, nice job. On to the crits!

Design Section Crits:
This may be a nit-picky comment but I think more negative space around your logos and such in the main viewing window may seem more elegant -- right now they're quite large and can seem clunky when the size is almost to the edges of the viewing frame. Oh, and the links for numbers 17-20 do not yield any images, are they blanks or broken links?

Photography Section Crits:
Your photography section, on the other hand, seems to have the opposite dilemma; they're quite small in size and may look awkward surrounded by all that white space. Logos you don't really need to see up close, but photography is something people like to explore -- especially the rich detail you have in your portfolio!

I love the concept. I

I love the concept. I started with something very similar to this for my own website but have deviated majorly (still not done with that, totally different story).

I think the lines are a bit *too* messy. I don't know. I really like it, but it just seems too messy over the top for me.

garyW's picture

messy lines = good!

They add more character and a sense of whimsy and spontaneity. I love her large signature as the masthead ... I'd almost like to see that signature move, in a jumpy way, as if there were 4 or 5 versions of it that quickly cycled through them in an animated loop.

Like I said, I like them-- I just think they are too over the top. ;)

plugz's picture

I like the idea, but it's a bit over done.

It's almost trying too hard to be scrappy.

Nice site, but to to my taste.
The fact that some of the navigational numbers don't click is a big problem for me, and of course the fact that it fails on pretty much every accessibility test you could put to it.

olliesan1's picture

By the time I would click on

By the time I would click on a number to view a logo and then click on "papelena" to view the letterhead, I'd forgotten what number I clicked on. I think it would be useful if you indicated in some way what number logo the viewer was looking at. Maybe highlight the number in another color? I ended up clicking on numbers I'd already seen. Overall, it's a great start, very playful. You have some beautiful work within the site too. Nice work.

julianaduque's picture

You´re right about

You´re right about forgetting which number you´re viewing. Hadn´t thought about it. I´ll try to figure something out. As for the accessibility tests plugz mentions... heh we´ll I´m not really a web designer (struggled with flash to pull this together) maybe you have some pointers on how to make it more accessible. I´m more of a print person so I need all the help I can get.
Oh, and I´m gonna cover up the numbers that don´t have links to them, I was just hoping I´d get some more logos done to put in there. So far no luck.
Everyone, thanks for the feedback.

stephanie's picture

My biggest problem

Is I find the navigation a little bit dis-functional, and a little confusing. (Three links to the same portfolio?) I don't speak Spanish, but I recognize what the links say.

I also agree on making a "visited" state on the numbers. That way you can keep track of what's currently been viewed.

I really love this design for logotypes (it seems a bit small for photography), and it makes them REALLY pop. :)

P.S. Another thing that kind of bugged me a little, is your "9" looks like a "g". I know I know, people can rip me apart for being that picky. XD But nevertheless, it's something I noticed.

Charming

The site is novel, unique. I like it. I love your logos and the collaterals. Nice work! I did find three links to the same portfolio to be confusing, though. It comes across as a mistake. It would also be helpful to have a way to navigate back to Home from wherever else you are in the site. It wasn't obvious that clicking on your signature would be the only way to get there.

Did you stage the photos, or are you the photographer, or both? Should you define that for visitors unfamiliar with your work? Do you state anywhere WHY you have a Web site? Is it just an e-brochure to show off your work, or a marketing tool? It is already the former. For it to be also the latter, it would need better navigation, as has already been pointed out, and some sort of a "hook" to encourage potential new clients to contact you.

Would you suggest like an intro text to explain what I do?

I was thinking more of what

I was thinking more of what you'd *like* to do -- as in some new guy's logo. Ask for the sale, in other words. Invite customers to imagine how it would be to work with you. Let them know how much you'd enjoy that, and how it would benefit them. In five words ;-)

Hey Juliana! I Think the whole handstyle is great, plus good professional content. Besides that, haven´t you thought about making more profit of the project animating the site a bit? Giving some Flash dynamism to the whole project would be nice I think... just a comment.

Good Work!

Saludos desde Barcelona!

mara06's picture

Eek!

Please don't animate anything! Why would you want to? What's the design rationale, when the whole template for the site is ink on paper? Just to be swish? Nah. The work speaks for itself. It doesn't need Flash shouting from backstage.

I don´t know if you´ve noticed but I´m not exactly a flash whiz, hehehe.
Good comment on the "back to home" button.
The reason that I have three link to the same portfolio is that I figured not everybody knew what corporate ID was so I just gave it like 3 diff meanings in case some people didn´t know.
Is this confusing for everyone?

Oh and don´t worry mara I won´t animate, I seriously am not good at it and I´d rather have a static not so flashy site than a poorly animated one.

olliesan1's picture

It is confusing. Most people

It is confusing. Most people are familiar with the different terms used to mean "corporate ID", just using one should be sufficient. If you have other types of designs (packaging, brochures, etc) those could be separate menu items.

I admit at first that I was a bit confused and clicked a few times to make sure there weren't seperate links that I was mis-clicking.

Nice 'n simple

Overall good stuff, great content, but maybe too little information.

Crits:
I dunno if you left it out on purpose, but I'd like to see a bit of a description of what I am seeing, just a couple of explanatory words.

The only other thing I'd mention is about the pics. They don't feel entirely integrated, more like just placed into the empty space. Maybe ragging the edges or something in that direction? Logos and Collaterals work out just fine.

Just my humble opinion, I do like simplicity and you nailed down something good there.

cheers

But why not do it in HTML instead of Flash? It's not really using Flash to it's advantage (at least, that I can see).

Neither am I....

Honestly, I think web design is a pain in the ass—but I wanted to learn the basics so I can at least attempt to design my website. I didn't want to pay someone for a lousy template.

So I feel your pain, julianaduque! =P

Hey hey hey. Just thought

Hey hey hey. Just thought I´d let you all know that I´ve taken into account some of your suggestions and updated my site.
Update include: Numbers on logos and photos so there´s no confusion on where you´re at.
An "inicio" (home) text under the signature so you know that´s where you´re supposed to click to go home.
I made the logos a bit smaller (they really were huge)
And i put a small text up on the home page so there´s no confusion whether or not this site is intended to be a portfolio

check it out. www.julianaduque.com oh you have to empty your caches ir something so you can see the new one.

Sweet!

I absolutely love the site design. Brilliantly simple!

On an extreme side note... I was struck by how large the type and logos appear on some of your letterhead designs. Don't be afraid to set address information all on one line and watch for logos that overpower the space.

P.S. - I see you updated the 'servioptica' logo on your site. It's still one of my favorites. Great work!

onegirlcreative's picture

Very clever. I love it!

I think it's great! Although I can see what everybody is talking about from the comments above, I still think it's clever and unique. It's completely different from anything else I have seen—which to me, is successful! Not to mention the minimal white space and handwritten "type," it just works for me!

Good job. Excellenté!

mystery meat navigation

stylistically the site is interesting: the single biggest problem is navigation. specifically, the lack of cues for the visitor as to what's behind box number 7, or 4, or 2. or indeed, what they are once selected.

are you showing us what you've done for other clients, or what you've mocked up? how have your designs/images been used - how might a prospective client get ideas about how you've helped others?

just some thoughts, as i pass by.
