Name for a new Design Studio?

Hi everybody.

I'm going it alone, quitting the nine to five and starting up for myself.

I've done some freelance work under the title 'Holo Design'. Though, for my new venture I've been thinking of using a more attention grabbing name. 'GingerSex' is the alternative.

Holo is from the Greek holos meaning whole/complete.
GingerSex on the other hand is from a very personal place.

What do you think?

Holo Design or GingerSex?

You're not serious are you? I wouldn't hire you, strictly because of the name. It tells me you're not serious, you're not a professional, and you have no clue how to communicate - which is what someone hires a graphic designer to do.

Why not just use your real name. You don't NEED a clever name, especially as a freelance designer. In fact you're better off using your name. It builds your reputation.

Just my 2¢

I'd add my vote to Jim's..
There's no rule for having a new name with a new business, is there? Build strong reputation with your name, and when your work is well know you can have a new name with a new logo for the business..

Remember to use the name, logo, letterhead and website as a showcase..

I think a clever name is in fact very important because as a creative
individual you want to be different and interesting.

a "clever" name is overrated. your clever name isn't what gets you work, your portfolio and reputation do that.

if your clever name is what's bringing in work, then you're doing a crappy job of marketing.

not to say it isn't nice to have a cool and hip name, but a lot of the best studios in DC have names that are essentially the studio owner's name or a simple play on that name, nothing sexy. but they're sought after and charge the highest rates and people want to work for them.

I'd steer clear of the name myself, but i'm not you. If it's your personal style then go for it. You'll be limiting your client base somewhat i imagine, but then so are we all by the way we represent ourselves. Even subjectiveness is subjective.

Don't listen to everyone else! It's a great name, stick to it doll! I'd hire you in a heartbeat! Listen, we have a shoot this weekend, can you fly down to LA, Buck Naked is going to star in one of our movies, and we can use a good supporting cast! Pays the usual, oh, and if you have an extra pair of fuzzy handcuffs lying about, can you bring them ? I can see it now: Buck Naked, Ginger Sex in "Jack's descender in Debbie's ascender : The dirty years."

Um, neither name is very advantageous unless you work in the porn industry. :)

GingerSex Design? Leaving aside what a piss-poor name for a (legal) company this is, just imagining the spam, 3 a.m. phone calls and junk mail it would generate boggles the mind.

Will you answer the phone with, "Hi, this is GingerSex. What are you wearing?"

Please, do yourself -- and our industry -- a favor and quit trying to be clever. Let your designs spread that word for you.

I completely agree with mara06. Don't use "sex" to name your designs or you want to be misunderstood
Use your name, instead. a very great example is just creative design. Go to this blog and see how his name matches with his identity

Please stop ressurecting ancient threads. And please log the f**k in. You're really starting to get on my nerves.
