Need help with software/laptop purchase...
videodreams (6 pencils) | Wed, 2009-01-28 22:26I have a Mac at home, teach on PC's at school.
I need to purchase software and a laptop for use with design work and teaching.
A friend recommends the MacBookPro, as it is cross platform.
Any problems with the MBP?
Feedback? Advice? My budget for the laptop is $1500, approx.

I wouldent recomend anything else.
I think an MBP is a good choice, but MB is probably enough.
Hi,
If you're students are working on PCs I think the best choice would be for you to work on a PC as well so it will ease your job as you will be able to help them better. Remember, if you have a MAC and they have PCs you will find yourself in a position in which you won't be able to correctly tell a student where to do a certain thing since it will be done one way on PC and way differently on MAC.
I have worked with Adobe Products on MAC and PC alike and I can tell you they tend to be different in many aspects.
I suggest you buy a TOSHIBA Satellite L300, I have one right now and I'm running CS4 perfectly in it. And the most important part is that it'll cost no more than $650 or $700.
Also, what software are you looking for and is the budget for software and computer as well or just for computer?
Take care!!!
the operating systems work very differently, but the adobe programs themselves have very few differences between platforms. i work on both platforms and really only have issues remembering which platform i'm on when it comes to things like printing, which is an OS thing, or the keyboard, since the cmd/ctrl/alt/etc keys are different. but the actual programs themselves? i barely notice which platform i'm working on.
