first of all, AWESOME blog!
i have just started on my own blog and would like to know a few things, how do you manage to get your own look like you have? secondly, its really different to all the others, i mean layout, looks and stuff - same question as above i guess, how did you do it?
did you create the stuff on Photoshop and that and then slice it up or what? i am new to bloggin and this CSS stuff i think its called so please dont laugh at my lack of knowledge
i am a first year graphic design student and from the UK
btw, what font is that in the header 'creativebits'?

what i did here is quite a hack job. it was done bit by bit. there was no proper planning or design thinking behind it. i just added and removed bits and pieces until i was comfortable with it. i took a blogger template and started modifying by replacing the images and working on the CSS in the template. later i removed the css from the template to make it external and faster. finally i added the forum and slowly managed to make it look close to the blog.
however this is not the way i would do it today and it's definitely not the best practice. what you should do and what i did for the upcoming new version of creativebits is to take PS document and put in guides that will create the boundaries for your design. than you start creating the sections that will later become "divs", such as header, content, sidebar and footer, etc. now, design each div separately. do a main page and a comment page as well.
now, it's time to slice up your site. cut out the images and save them separately. make sure you plan how they gonna be linked in from your css. now create the main structure as html and CSS. once your design is ready and looks good, replace all the content with the variables that your blog uses. this is going to be your template.
i realize that this method is much more difficult than just making small changes to an existing template, so maybe you should do the same as i did and learn the stuff by modifying existing templates before doing the real stuff.
welcome to the forums noob!
Ivan, that's funny you mention that process. I've done the same thing with my blog. I haven't had any time in the last couple months to create and maintain my personal sites as I've been quite busy with freelance stuff, so I just kinda changed and hacked up a blogger template and customized it into something different. Got me going on learning how CSS works and whatnot, so it was a good structure to learn on.

Hi noob, welcome! :D
My blog http://dahliamadness.com is from the Wordpress template. I redesigned it with help from all the CSS support that Wordpress provides, so that I ended up with it looking like the rest of the site. It's layout is not that different from the original Wordpress template, with the exception that the menu is on the left, no the right.
Now all I have to do is to start adding to it! What canI say? I been really busy!
suzy
wow! that seems pretty hard!
well anyway, i've customised the header a bit in Photoshop, what do i do now to change the template header which is on at the momment?
i do sense i'd have to upload it somewhere on to the net, and then insert a tag with the URL of the image somewhere within all that code text thing. anyone know where?
it would be nice if you could post in little detail so i dont get lost/confused! like my user name states, i am a new blogger so please bear with me!
thanks
