New Jester Underground identity - Logo/Business card
mmackinven (38 pencils) | Wed, 2010-04-14 21:38Hey,
Here's a logo and business card design I have made for a friend. Jester Underground is a company that organizes gigs/events and manages bands, recordings and PR.
The logo can be read the same upside down as well.
Hope you guys like it :)

When printed is it supposed to have the purple border? If it is...well.. it must have bleeds. I don't know the "Jester" because it seems to cluttered to me, too much going on, and I think the "underground" would be hard to read once printed out.
Is the Jester a font or did you create it? It seems waaay too choppy.
If you know print you will see there is a ton of bleed, and the magenta 'border' was a die line, which will probably end up being corner cut (for round corners).
The logo brief itself was to be grungy/heavy/distorted. Once printed (one colour black) underground is very clear :)
Jester was a font but has been heavily modified.
I was assuming that the magenta border would be printed; but now that you have clarified it's for the die cut I understand. I have much experience in the printing industry but none with die cutting. And thank you for clarifying as I know something on screen will look different printed out.
Not a problem, apologies on my behalf :)
Will post up some more collateral soon when I have some time.
If you didn't tell me the name was Jester, I would have thought it was Jeser. Not too crazy about the playing card type Jester going down on either side of the card. Seems a little overkill. If you're going to go with a playing card theme, go with a playing card theme. Seems more like an afterthought.
It definitely has potential.

Check out what I've been up to lately!

I'm going to print it out and eat it.

Looks like some dark arts organization. Is that intentional?
neato vibe!
but im with leaky. i dont see the t. but in some cases (and im NOT sure if this is one of them) concept may trump legibility.
but i cant read underground at all.
Yup - no "t" there imho. But the idea is not that intriguing anyway - so...
If you want to flesh out the playing card idea you could go the evil foreboding route and have a LOT of fun with this. One thing you should consider is different cards too - do them 4-up (or whatever) and have 4 different versions. This is one of those things you can go totally nuts on.
Fair enough :)
It's a bit late now to change anything as the whole branding is moving forward.
Here's the website so far: http://www.jesterunderground.com/
1st I search for "Jesus" stuff because "T" looks like a crucifix.
next I was inclined to read "Jetster" because it seems me an "alternative" reading of two "T"s
If you read one time the name correctly using other types, you'll be conditioned.
we feel that maybe there is a better approach but you could find it for a redesign.
yes I'm brazilian xD
What's wrong with everyone? This is a very nice branding style imho.
The T is formed by the vertical crossing the bottom of the E. Simple.
And the whole Ambigram technique works perfectly.
Good job.

nothing wrong man just critiques.
on most cases I don't read upper posts because I want to express without any influence.
that's the reason sometimes I repeat what someone wrote before.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Apologies, I wasn't being rude - honest!

I love ambigrams and I love this logo. Nice job.
I don't read "Jeser" because "jester" is a common word, and the T is evident to me.
Thanks guys, they have been printed now :)
Reshoot it with Macro! :)
Haha, yeah, client took that shot :)
Here's the old card design with the new one, gives you a better perspective:
