single processor brings a more mid-range machine to the frey. A headless iMac almost.

Exactly. At a lower price-point, it's going to attract Mac users who don't need the extra processing power, and already have a nice monitor.
Not to mention the fact that the towers have a significantly higher ROI than iMacs for Apple (a higher profit margin).

it's kinda sad... recently i've been losing interest in speebumps and small upgrades like these.
don't get me wrong, I do have wet dreams about new G5 powermacs and certainly the upcoming G5 powerbook... still trying to find some bodypart i'm willing to sell to have money to buy it.
don't sell a bodypart. you may need it in the future. just whore out your brain. that will make you some money. :)
well... that or just sell my self as cheap labor on boring design projects... something very much not creative... spend time = get money....
that usually works for me! :)
