New UI for stockbrokers software
alanclarkdesign (126 pencils) | Mon, 2009-11-09 22:55I am looking at designing a new UI for a stockbrokers software and would appreciate some feedback. I have attached the original look look to this post.
As you will see it is a Windows based software and currently contains lots of standard frames, so I have tried to clean up the interface and just make it easier to view. The 4 quadrants have to remain as they are.

Congratulations. Good grid and choices for fonts/icons.
It's a very complex layout and needs to be analyzed for a long term and better if goes "on business". The first thing I noted was the tinny clock at down. I think it's a crucial information and need it BIGGER, BOLDER and at TOP of the layout. I think the best is a rectangle with white/black background and grey/white bold numbers (the opposite of ProbuleFX title and bold as FX).
yes I'm brazilian xD
The reflective surfaces on all the buttons are not helping me. I like simple interfaces - the important thing is the info - not the buttons.
Thanks for the feedback - very interesting and helpful! It is a very complicated software but you're absolutely right that content is key. Now you've pointed it out, I probably agree about the buttons - I will try and convince the client that flat buttons will benefit.
The impression I am getting is that they see 'complicated' as 'quality' or dare I say it "premium". I don't actually agree with this and believe that clarity and usability is of more importance, especially when dealing with so much information, but then I guess they are the ones forking out. This is quite a challenging one!
Thanks again.
I think for this one quality should equate usability, form and functionability. the web 2.0 look is a fad. I think it'd be better if you can make it skinable so the user/s and your client will both be happy. Have a business look skin for the baby boomers and the shiny, glossy web 2.0 look for the, well, the web generation.
Personally, if its a business software, keep it "business" looking, no clutter, clean, and have the least buttons showing, put the buttons in a drawer where the user can just click that one area and the buttons will slide out, but keep the necessary buttons showing on the interface.
From the looks of it, it seems like it deals in foreign exchange. Just a little thing i noticed because of the pairings. Check out Metatrader. Metatrader 5
