Newsletter Design
stukes21 (12 pencils) | Thu, 2007-02-01 15:41Non-profit newsletter. Looking for feedback on overall design. Wondering how to treat letters bleeding into white on the subheadings, i.e. letters dropping below the line. I would rather not do all CAPS.

Great job! I would recommend you keep the title consistent. Don't use the serif font for 'NEWS' and make 'COMMON HOPE NEWS' just a bit bigger; don't be afraid to overlap your green shape and the photo a little bit.
Otherwise you've got a great design here. Professional and clean.

Dirt and Rust
All the text seems a little squished together, I'd like to see bigger margins and (maybe) more leading. But I understand it's a newsletter and there's limited space too.
Good job! Just a couple of comments for you to think about. RE Apfhex's comments above, could you not shrink the size of the body copy slightly, that could make all the difference. What size is it now? A point down could make all the difference. Try to watch your widows and orphans, I forget which is which, but at the end of a paragraph one word on its own doesn't look too great, this is especially true with justified text, which is why I tend not to use it much, it also messes with the word and letter spacing. You have a few on pages 3 and 4. Lastly your curves look a little jagged, not quite smooth and flowing, maybe you could alter them very slightly too. Thats it, looks good, your client should be really happy!
