It is not irritating to be where one is
It is only irritating to wish
One was somewhere else

I use 1280x1024 because of the native resolution on my LCD monitor. I would set my CRT higher since it can handle it but it's much easier when both screens have the same resolution. I do a lot of gaming to kill time and relax in between designing so I'm constantly going full screen on one monitor. When I get some extra money and upgrade my LCD I'll move up to 1600 on both of them

Dual 20 inchers (sadly, not cinema displays) making up a total resolution of 3200x1200. Since moving over to dual monitors I find it hard moving back to computers with single.

...the best my PowerBook can do. I sure do wish I could have 1920x1200 though... *drools at 23" display*

I have a 20" Cinema Display, though next year I might get a used 30" because they are beginning to become cheap (I have seen some around $1500).

1152 x 864. But I browse at a width of about 870px - it's annoying to have a designer assume they have a thousand pixels of real estate to play with, when they don't.

Because we have quite high number of votes on this poll I thought it would be interesting to compare it to the numbers the statistics show for creativebits on this subject and compare:

It's interesting that the 1024x768 is clearly a winner with 33% in the real world, while the poll only shows it second with 23%. The second real world winner is the first in the poll however. Also, interesting to see that 800x600 is less than 2% percent in the real world and in the poll as well. This means that very soon there will be a possibility to seriously consider designing sites for 1024 width rather than the traditional 800. I realize that many people still prefer 800 sites even though they have bigger screens, because they want to fit more windows on their screens at the same time, but still we have the option to actually do 1024 sites and not be afraid too much of losing too many visitors.

I agree with 1024 sites. I've advised most clients to go to this size over the last 18 months. I can't recall the last time I saw a screen at a 800 x 600.

I find it hard to ever go below the 1280x1024 resolution.

Flub-Dub's picture

at work the only thing I design is websites. for the rest of my work I freelance. anyways all web-portals that we designed in the past year were for 1024.
even the clients asked for it. everybody agrees that 800 is dead.

the cheapest worse computer you buy nowadays has a 17in monitor. and that means 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz. some work related laws even forbid having a 15in monitor, some even 17".

go for 1024. dont look back.

the best often die by their own hand
just to get away,
and those left behind can never quite understand
why anybody would ever want to get away from them
